"could you show me something you can do? with your magic!" it's an innocent question, morning sent mother figure sitting in the air, fluttering boots keeping her at eye-level with her new son. she's seen what laine's capable of - even if it isn't a lot of it - and she's intrigued by what zane had in store behind his anxious smiles.

Evelyn was all about the light–it was why she took to Laine so quickly. It was clear that in Evelyn’s mind, light was good, dark was evil–she was a devout follower of the morning god, for fuck’s sake. It’s why Zane never held eye contact with her for long, why he tried to excuse himself when she began to talk about Lathander because he was afraid of her damning him to Hell or something (the rational part of his mind said that no, Evelyn wouldn’t do that, but his instinctual fear took over).
Zane gently rocked back and forth on his feet, eyes on the ground. “U-um… Well, I-I can do this…”
A black tendril snaked out of one of the shadows, up to one of the end tables, and wrapped around a glass that had been on a coaster. The tendril lifted up the glass and dropped it into Zane’s outstretched hand.
“… I can pick up things. These can also pull and throw…” Shoulder bunched up in embarrassment. “… Things like that.
