Alexander’s Ambient Saturdays #029: Water by Helene Grimaud
Today on this beautiful spring day-I present to you Helene Grimaud’s Water. Water is an interesting concept in which Grimaud performs various romantic and modern classical pieces based around the theme of water. The album flows in and out of classical pieces to “water transitions" courtesy of contributions from Nitin Sawhney and various of other modern classical/ambient artists. The water transitions are largely improvisational pieces that throw in nice textural variety to balance out the beautiful but very technical piano playing. As someone who enjoys classical piano music, I welcome an album that flows like this.
We might as well call this Alexander Piano Saturdays because that’s all I seem to listen to these days……
