How do we change the world if we donβt start thinking about PEOPLE beyond ourselves, beyond our friends and family, beyond our lives? #empathy #grow #learn #considerothers #thinkoutsidethebox #moreempathy #Repost @littlelobbyists γ»γ»γ» 30/100 Gabrielle, age 14, Michigan Gabbie loves animals, going to school, chatting with friends, and singing in choir. Sheβs an βold soulβ with a great sense of humor and empathy who accepts people as they are and loves helping work through problems. Because of a traumatic event during an ER visit when she was a baby, Gabbie has schizencephaly, hydrocephalus, a VP shunt, spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy with dystonia, ADHD, asthma, GERD, sensory processing disorder, cognitive delays, and apraxia of speech. She requires assistance for all activities and uses a wheelchair and more to help access her world. Gabbieβs mom, Sarah says: βI never would have been able to pay even a portion of that bill, being a single mom. My child wouldn't have access to have even her most basic needs being met. Without the ACA, we wouldn't last long, and it's terrifying to imagine what would happen to us.β Learn more about Gabbie here: www.littlelobbyists.org/gabrielle βββββββββββββ Recently, Gabbie has become very interested in activism. Sheβs participated in school walkouts, the Women's March, the March For Our Lives, and has become very vocal about the Americans with Disabilities Act. Kids with disabilities like Gabbie have been largely left out of the planning for emergency situations, like the mass shootings which have become all too common in our country - including yesterdayβs tragedy in Florida. βThe federal government, which typically outlines what needs to be covered, does not have anything in there for safety protocols for the disabled child.β Read more here: www.themighty.com/2018/03/active-shooter-disability βββββββββββββ Gabbie is standing up for herself.
