I finished the fanfic, and it definitely has an intersting ending. But now that I know Star is going to participate, just thinking about the fact that when she grows up, she'll realize that not only do her parents not "love" each other, but that she was only born out of political necessity to maintain the Butterfly legacy, and not even because of her mother's desire to be a mother.
Technically speaking, that's why most of the Butterfly ladies were born and I'm pretty sure a lot of them weren't especially interested in being mothers either, so I really don't think Star would be a unique case here. The Butterflies really aren't the picture of a healthy family. Though, while Moon and River may not love each other romantically in Holding Onto Dust, they do love each other very dearly as friends, and both love Star a lot, too, so it's not necessarily that she was born just out of political necessity. If I ever get back into the fandom enough to write the sequel, there would definitely be an arc about Star questioning these sort of things, especially upon learning about Gravitas, but it'd all come together in the end with Star understanding that families aren't always conventional and there's nothing wrong with that or her place in it.
Another you and me...
Im a big fan of enemy mine; is there any spoilers you could give about sequels?
Thank you! I don't remember if I mentioned this here, but I never plotted Enemy Mine out as thoroughly as I did Holding onto Dust and at this point I've forgotten most of what I had planned for the fic but since I'm not sure if I'll ever pick it up again, I'll go ahead and list off some things that I do remember. Spoilers below the cut, of course
Been thinking about them

The Epilogue for Holding onto Dust is now up
As I was going over my final notes, I decided there was no reason to separate the events of what I had written for chapter 13 & 14, so I merged them together, and sadly this makes this the last chapter of Holding onto Dust. I will be adding an epilogue soon, thank you for sharing this journey with me for the last year
