Reposted from @molecule_of_the_day (@get_regrann) - Fosfomycin, sold under the brand name Monurol, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic produced by certain bacteria π¦ species. Antibiotics like these work by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medication π is typically used to treat urinary tract infections such as bladder infections. It is also used alongside tobramycin to treat lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients. The drug is well tolerated and has a low incidence of harmful side effects. However, development of bacterial resistance under therapy is a frequent occurrence and makes fosfomycin unsuitable for sustained therapy of severe infections. Thanks π anonymous for the suggestion!
