     The jetlag was terrible. Being forced to jump into a completely different time zone opposite of his own was one thing. But he was sure sleep would be hard to come by for the next few nights. Perhaps the worst side effect of coming to the realization that caring for those you will outlive is an exercise in futility and that they will tell you so themselves was the finality of it all. What was the point of staying around people who told you something you knew to be true? 

Losing Lucas and Harvey was a weird experience, in that (ignoring the pain altogether) it cut the ties with anything mortal you'd known. You didn't just backslide into your true self, you swan dived into it. Or were pushed. Either way, it felt complete. You no longer feel the need to push yourself to be something you're not. It wouldn't work if you did; Harvey had essentially told you that. He could be very convincing.

Vaguely, you register in the that if you ever were to see any of your old friends again (and even now the idea seems foreign, like memories of your teenage years do), you might begin the long, grueling process of climbing back up to the point of the human standard of normality. Again.
