Hey, i came across your post a minute ago, and im curious to see how this is going to turn out :) I wear the hijab so I could help you answer your questions. different people wear the hijab differently depending on their style and how much they choose to cover. i recommend just looking up pictures on tumblr c =
Awesome, thanks for the help. Anyways I was curious about a few things. As I stated one of the projects (a game) features a sailor moon styled magic girl. Now I am a competent enough designer to make a good costume that shows no more skin than the face and hands, but after spending some time on Google I saw that hijabs "should not be decorated as to attract the eyes of men" and that they "should not be a dress worn to seek fame". Now since the character's uniform is not something she chooses or picks out I'm thinking it doesn't break the rule that it shouldn't be worn to seek fame (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), but the most common design tropes associated with Magic Girls are ribbons, frills, eye catching colors, etc. Since this isn't something she wears to get attention would it be okay for her to wear a costume with all of the bells and whistles one would expect of a magic girl, is it not allowed, or is it one of the things that she can choose to wear if she wants to?
Also another project of mine (a comic) features a girl who's personality is like Tony Stark from the Iron Man movies minus the full blown narcissism, megalomania, and self obsession. Anyways I saw (I'm paraphrasing here) that one must also behave modestly as well as lower ones gaze or it doesn't count/isn't allowed. Do I need to rewrite this character's personality from the ground up, is it more of a way for her to behave when in public, or is it also up to her to decide?
Final question (that I can think of at the moment anyways). I read that women must wear their hajibs when around men they aren't related to, can a muslim woman remove her hajib when she's just with a female friend or is that also not allowed?
Thanks in advance for the help, and I'm sorry for the wall of text! You deserve a medal if you read all of that in one sitting. It's just that I'm creating these characters to give Muslim girls someone to look up to and identify with in games and comics and I really want to make sure I get this right. All of my good intentions are meaningless if I insult an entire group of people due to my ignorance of their culture.
