Monkey Quest Playthrough: Day 1
So a while ago I found out about a game called Monkey Quest. It was an MMO by Behavior Interactive and Nickelodeon. It opened in 2011 and closed in 2014, so it wasn't around for too long. I never played it when it was around, but luckily there's a fan recreation! So I though it would be fun to document my playthrough of it. (Note: I made a monkey and played a little of the game a few months ago, but for this playthrough I'm starting fresh)
The game starts out with a pretty animated into explaining how there was the Monkey King and his five followers who would go on adventures. But a dark evil shows up and while they defeat it, the Monkey King disapears as well. Now the followers have their own scattered tribes across the lands. When we start the game, it seems as though the evil Kaa is returning.
When you start you get to customise and name your monkey. There aren't a ton of colors to choose from, I think there's only eight. There are a lot of different faces and hair to choose from though. I make mine have a bowl cut, red eyes, and buck teeth. I like to imagine they're a loser vampire lol. Next we choose the name from a list of pre-selected words. They have a lot of regular first names like Sophie, which some people may like. I went with Toolu SparkleWarrior.
This game is a 2-D platformer where you fight enemies with your different weapons and collect treasures/crafting materials. I'm still on the tutorial missions so far, but it's pretty fun!
The main hub is this village with a clock tower. It makes a kinda-annoying ticking noise. The story takes a tiny bit of inspration from The Journey to the West with the Monkey King stuff, but that seems to be about it for Chinese inspiration. The aesthetic seems to be vaguely Aztec/Mayan with the temples and stuff, but I'm not super knowledge on that topic. There are also lots of cool pirate ships. I know you can acually join each of the tribes, and that one of them is called the Sea Dragons.
(Bonus pic of a clown monkey lol) Overall I'm excited to keep on playing! I'll make update posts when I can, it's very fun to talk about stuff I like! This version is called Monkey Quest Reborn, but please do your own research and use wisdom before downloading any online game, especially fan recreations.
I'm so happy that this games exists, and that I can play it!
