A memorable meal this year?

I loved the restaurant we had brunch at in Seattle that served the weirdly dense toast. I loved sitting outside on the patio and drinking mimosas with you. The ultimate Tumblr Ancients' experience. I hope we can go back when I visit at Christmas.

I love how we have almost the complete opposite taste in dogs, except when it comes to Chihuahuas. It really proves that they're the superior breed. You can't go wrong with tiny dogs with big attitudes.

There are varying degrees of hairlessness amongst hairless dog and many have "peach fuzz" that does need to be shaved for the ring. Most people just use a regular human razor to get a totally smooth finish. I wouln't consider it an abnormal practice at all. A little excessive for a pet, because you need to be really on top of exfoliation and ingrown hairs/acne with hairless dogs, but you do you.

What @molosseraptor said. Also, from what I’ve been told, the “peach fuzz” is becoming more common because hairless cresteds with fuzz tend to have much nicer furnishings. So if you want those big furnishings, you can’t have a truly hairless-bodied crested.

Exactly. If you have to brag about it, it’s because that’s literally all you have going for you. Your qualifications should speak for themselves.

I tend to suggest smaller, middle of the road dogs like Bichon, Cavaliers, Havanese, Cockers, etc. They tend to be medium to low energy and drive, social with people and dogs, but still have the potential to do fun stuff if the owner is up for it. They tend to be smart and easy to motivate, so training is easy. The smaller size makes them travel and apartment friendly but they’re still sturdy dogs that can play and hike.

All of those are high grooming needs, which I also don’t recommend for people who have no idea what they’re doing and aren’t interested in researching beforehand. I’ve seen way too many severely matted young dogs come in for their first groom at 6+ months to justify that suffering with “they’ll learn!”

I was actually just telling my roommates about a client I effectively had to fire because I couldn’t stand the state she continually brought her dog in. Maltese mix, his very first groom at 6 months old. This dog was actually white with two very light tan spots. She brought him in while he was a solid dark grey-brown, one living mat, so matted that he could barely walk or open his mouth, and the poor thing was terrified of everything around him. She insisted the groomers leave him as long as possible because she “liked how fluffy his hair is”, and they did. And she brought him in the very next week in very similar condition. And the week after. And the week after. The groomers eventually buzzed him to the skin, and she spent all of her training class that day complaining how they had “ruined” her “poor baby’s” fluffy coat. No amount of explaining that she absolutely had to comb him and brush him and bathe him at home if he was going to get that dirty made any progress in how she kept him.

yeah I was checking the regs because I heard that AKC uses different swabs than NACSW (which is where my trainer competes in) and then got completely distracted by how AKC novice is just on birch

NACSW requires an odor test on all 3, and NW1 can be on all 3, and while you can get separate titles for each element I’d rather aim for the NW1 title from the start, which means being ready for all 4 elements with all 3 odors in our first trial.

meanwhile AKC Novice is birch only, and it’s 3 qualifying runs per element for SWN which can be done at different trials. soooooo...

and that’s even disregarding that AKC does prepare swabs differently and they’re much stronger

Accountability is the best motivation. It’s why I’m doing Control Unleashed class with Gen next month. It’s essentially a “work your fucking dog at a different facility/place that’s not your work and get her in a class that’s not yours” class
