Our research is focused on understanding the molecular and cellular basis of vision and inherited retinal degenerative diseases which are a major cause of blindness.   Three main themes are:

1.       Identification of novel proteins that play crucial roles in visual transduction, photoreceptor cell structure and morphogenesis, and protein trafficking

2.      Elucidation of molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying retinal degenerative diseases including retinitis pigmentosa and macular degeneration

3.      Design and development of therapeutic treatments of retinal degenerative diseases including gene and drug therapy
