Day 50 - Spot X: First surfing lesson
Today we woke around 8.30am to get our breakfast (choice of cereals or toast), sign in at reception and get to our surfing lesson early so we could sign forms, choose wetsuits etc. We had a bit of an introductory theory lesson to surfing before putting our stinger suits on and taking the boards down to the beach. Once we got to the beach, we drew out our own surfboards on the sand and practiced popping up on the beach - hands, back foot, front foot, twist, slow hands :) seemed pretty straightforward. There were also blue bottle jellyfish all over the beach that we had to look out for. So we attached our surfboard straps to our ankles and went out into the waves and did our own thing for about an hour or less. I managed to stand up once maybe? It was very exhausting but a lot of fun once you stood up on the board :) After the lesson we went for lunch (wraps, pasta, sandwiched) and checked out some of the photos that were taken from the lesson. It was pretty funny looking at everyone's pictures. At lunch I got chatting to some nice guys, a Danish and a French guy. We applied sunscreen after lunch and headed out to the beach to relax for the afternoon. I also went off on a walk again around the left hand side of the beach which was nice. It was really hot out today. We had dinner at 6 (roast bee?) It was good. My eye was fucked though because of sand getting in my contact lens, so it was all red and puffy. A guy I met in Sydney that works at the camp came over and started talking to me because he recognised me, which was surprising :P After dinner, we went to chill in the movie room for a bit before my eye started annoying me again, so I went to bed early to rest it so it wouldn't be red in the morning for my second surf lesson. Zzz.
