I really liked the effect this had on my skin. It felt nourished, even after absorbing it throughout the night.

The only thing I didn't like is that something in this made my skin feel tingly. I find that very disconcerting, because that's usually the precursor to an allergic reaction. It went away after a few minutes and never evolved into a rash or hives though, so it could just be the effect that one or any of the botanical extracts in this formula has. Still, it made me wary and I probably won't buy the full size.

Comps: Moon Juice Cosmic Cream Collagen Protecting Moisturizer ($58) is pretty close in terms of using similar actives. Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom line uses multiple adaptogens as well, and usually prices about the same. My lower-cost option for including adaptogens in your skincare comes from Undefined Beauty. All of their products use a mix of adaptogens and other clinical actives to tackle signs of aging, and their products usually price around $30. They don't have a regular moisturizer right now, but they have a number of serums and oils, and an SPF 50 daytime moisturizer. I recommend checking them out. They're doing some innovative stuff.

Results: I'm in love with this moisturizer. It's the best one I've used all year. Though this is their night cream formula, it's not overly thick. I use it day and night, and it works perfectly for my dry skin. If I want to boost its hydrating properties and really seal it in, I will apply a couple drops of olive-derived squalane oil on top of it. I wake up in the morning then and still have some product on. Normally, I wake up with sandpaper skin no matter what I do. These two are a great pair.

What I really love about this is that its goals are simple. The ingredients are designed to hydrate and improve the skin without harsh actives. It's mild enough that I can pair this with any serums or other products I want and I don't have to worry about them interacting.

The only thing that might keep me from repurchasing is the price. I bought this on a 50% off sale, which is a great deal, but the regular price is a little outside my budget.

This has kind of a funky, verging on unpleasant, smell. It smells like celery soda, if you've ever encountered that before. Like, imagine the smell of celery and make it about 10x stronger. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

Results: I'll be honest, this wasn't my favorite moisturizer, and I definitely won't repurchase. First of all, this moisturizer contains ginseng and peppermint extracts, which I didn't know when I bought it because they're not highlighted as "star ingredients." So applying this made my skin red and reactive, and at first I didn't know why. I had to go online and read the full ingredient list. It would have been helpful to know this contained brightening ingredients ahead of time because I probably wouldn't have purchased it.

Secondly, it takes some work to fully absorb this moisturizer. A lot of rubbing and massaging the product in until the white cast disappeared. Kind of annoying.

Third, and this is maybe a bit petty, but the smell of this cream is really an acquired taste. I talked about it above, but it really was an off-putting scent to me. I wish I'd known that ahead of time.

And finally, it wasn't moisturizing enough! My skin has recently changed from normal to dry, and I had winter dryness on top of it. There just wasn't enough hydration in this to compensate. I had to use two serums and an oil with it.

Oh, and I guess the big question is did it do anything for my texture? The answer for me was, sadly, no. I've got larger, more noticeable pores on my cheeks. I didn't notice any changes with that over the course of use.

Overall, I was unimpressed.

Comps: I think probably the closest comp you're going to find is Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream ($49/1.7 oz). Like all Dermalogica products, it's expensive. It has the same benefits though, if not the same ingredients.

PUR Cloud Cream ($40/1.7 oz) is similar in that the ingredients promise to hydrate and promote smoother texture.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream also purports to do the same, although I'm not sure where they are getting their skin-smoothing from in the ingredients ($39/1.7 oz).
