ápasum is a loan word from Mohegan to American English, so many of you will recognize it as “opossum”. The sounds are still mostly the same, as you can “see”. ápasum – NA (animate noun) –  an opossum ápasumak – opposums, more than one opossum ápasumuk – on the opposum, in the oppossum Ápasum wuniconah nayiyumuk. –  The opposum carried her babies on her back.

I’ve been working on this one for years, actually. A good way to learn another language is to learn songs that use it. This song has been partially translated to help you along. in the very beginning of this project, the traditional folk song Bella Ciao was translated partially into Mohiks. Singing the language or bits of it is a good way to remember and utilize the language. Consider it a fun mnemonic device. Or just a good way to get the stuff into your head.
