(1/2)I've been thinking about yourfaveisproblematic. I feel like if that kind of thing was done to non-famous people, it would be considered cyberbullying. Like if you had a beef with a classmate, and you tried to dig up any bad thing they did or said in the past, while constantly keeping an eye on them, waiting for them to slip up in the future. Then you posted all this online for everyone to see, and encouraged people to spread it around and even join you in trying to catch them slipping
(2/2) up. The target could potentially lose friends and have their future jeopardized, kinda like celebs have probably lost fans, and even get entire blogs dedicated to hating on them. I don’t know, I just believe that if this was done to a regular person it would be considered cyberbullying and maybe even stalking. I don’t see why so many people think it’s an ok, and even a good thing, to do to famous people.
Welcome to the new normal.
Most of the people reading this have a sizeable online footprint which bored crazy obsessives will comb through for sins the second anyone becomes anyone of note. This is just how shit is gonna be from now on and people are gonna have to learn to deal with it, to look at it as a sign of success and a right of passage. if you ever become anyone of note literally the only thing you can do is be prepared to fully own every stupid thing you ever did and said. However you react is fine so long as it comes from a place of complete ownership. I know this sounds awful but I think the social repercussions will be a net positive in the long run - everyone is just going to have to be more honest that we’re all floppy ignorant humans with weird kinks that say stupid shit. Eventually it’ll be so commonplace no one will care and we can all go on about our business with a touch less pretension.
That’s my plan in the small chance I ever blow up in any way.
