All humans have a power. The power of the rose. Dubbed 'Rosettes', these powers are contained within all humans, but only a select few are capable of utilizing them, and even fewer are capable of using them to the fullest. These powers can range from anything from super-strength and flight to being able to manipulate other living things to being able to go their entire lives without a nosebleed.

Due to their rarity, intense variation, and a good chunk of people not even knowing their power is even active, not a lot of research can be done on them, and the public doesn't know much about these either. But before recently, that had never been a problem.

But now it's a problem. Why? More people have been able to activate their Rosettes. And more people equals more problems. It's not to a serious degree yet, but more and more crimes are being reported being committed by "people who could throw things with their minds" and "teenage girls with laser eyes". Soon, these may very well pose a threat to humanity itself.

However, one group has come together to stop this terrorism and abuse of power. The Modernrose Mafia, or just Modernrose for short. Upon joining, each member is given a special color-coded hoodie, can of spray paint, and a number. The group is stationed in Blühenherz, a large city that has been the center of the Rosette troubles. It's membership has been growing rapidly, and on one hand, the amount of Rosette crimes has gone down, but at the same time, more and more people are being put in danger as Rosette-wielding guilds become more and more destructive with their nefarious deeds.

Modernrose No. 1 - Mikuru "Kuru" Kurumi

Color - #FF00A6

Rosette - Miracle Bloom

Mikuru Kurumi is a fourteen-year-old girl, self-proclaimed 'resident princess' and leader of Modernrose. She's sweet, considerate, affectionate, stubborn, a bit of a scaredy-cat, and oh so trustworthy. She'll put her life on the line for those she cares about and completely forget why she's putting her life on the line in the span of ten minutes. She was the official starter of Modernrose, having been sick of the crime and the trouble it was causing everyone. So, after garnering a few friends whom had Rosettes as well, they began their official "Mikuru Kurumi's Super Special Clean Up Blühenherz Project" for the betterment of humanity.

Her Rosette, Miracle Bloom, revolves around flowers. Anywhere a flower can grow, with the flick of a wrist, she can make it bloom instantly. These flowers are hardier than normal flowers, and can be used as dangerous weapons. Be it creating thick, thorny vines to entrap a foe, or create a fleuret out of an extremely sharp rose that can pierce steel, the blooming powers of nature are at her disposal.

That being said, her powers do have their limits. As stated previously, she can make flowers bloom wherever, but that doesn't mean easily. Sure, fighting her in a garden would be an awful decision. But if she were locked in a clean space devoid of even natural sunlight, her powers would be severely crippled, as it would take a massive amount of her strength to make a single lily burst through the tile. Fortunately, a city has all sorts of places for vegetation to flourish, but that doesn't mean she's constantly 100%.

Modernrose No. 2 - Shironia Sakazaki

Rosette - Sleeping Static

Shironia Sakazaki is the second member of the Modernrose Mafia, and one of Mikuru's closest friends. A narcoleptic girl who uses her sleepiness to her advantage. She's soft-spoken, sweet, and shy, but always puts on her best face, even if her best face is 3AM bedhead. Adorable regardless. Shironia can be a bit inattentive, but she never means to be, and a bit of an airhead as well. She can lose focus during a battle, no matter how important, but she can always count on Mikuru bringing her back to reality when she can.

Her Rosette, Sleeping Static, can be incredibly powerful if used to its full potential. Shironia constantly has an air of static electricity around her, but that seems to effect everyone but her. While awake, it's not intensely strong, but she can give her foes quite a shock when she focuses it. The real trick is using her narcolepsy as a weapon. When she falls asleep on the battlefield, her power levels rocket to nearly deadly levels. It primarily forms a bubble of electricity so strong not even her teammates can get close to her without being fried, and it's like the electricity takes on a life of its own. It viciously attacks the enemies in tendrils and bolts of horrifyingly hot lightning, can be used as a shield, can bounce off walls and utilize metal and liquid to move even faster to strike foes down.

 The issue is that despite her shield, Shironia is still very much a weak and frail girl, and any ranged attack or even anyone getting a physical attack through her shield could knock her down and out. That's why it's the rest of the team's job to cover her. And if she's ever woken up in this state, her electricity goes back to normal levels, and she's even more open for attacks. That's why it's of the utmost importance that she remains unconcious and unharmed during a fight.

Modernrose No. 3 - Rin Meringue

Rosette - Sugar Trap

The first "joining" member of The Modernrose Mafia. Rin is an especially eccentric and excitable girl, and extremely responsible and loyal. She has a passion for baking, and is the best friend of Eclair Gateux. She can often be seen making cupcakes, pies, cookies, and various other baked goods. She doesn't have a very good hand with baking cakes, however. She joined after finding one of their abandoned fliers (when Shironia had finally convinced Mikuru that a secret agency does not put up fliers), and made her entrance by slamming the door open, freezing one of Mikuru's legs in a solid block of sugar, and shouted "AM I ACCEPTED YET?"

As stated previously, Rin has the power to create sugar. To be exact, she takes sugar from wherever she is capable of, pastry shops, parfaits, people's sweat, and psychokinetically molds it into solid or semi-solid form. This works great for essentially freezing a foe in place, or creating large sugar crystal barriers, or even creating massive cubes to fling at foes. It's a rather fun power, but it does have one hang up.

IT'S SUGAR. Sugar isn't like concrete. They basically shatter on contact, but it can stop a foe in its tracks, or take a significant amount of momentum down. But since it's sugar, most liquids are her worst enemy. She can have a crystalline arsenal ready to go, and have it all made useless because someone turned a hose on her. But regardless, she's still a force to be reckoned with on a battlefield.

Modernrose No. 4 - Eclair Gateux

Rosette - Utensil Utility

The second joining member, who is best friends with Rin. Eclair is the student council president of the local school, and is extremely popular, elegant, and very sweet to all of the students. Somehow, even with all the alleged "gracefulness" she has, she's still extremely clumsy. She was also pulled into the baking club with Rin, and is better at making cakes than any other baked good, something Rin envies. She joined alongside Rin, assisting in removing Mikuru's leg from the block of sugar with her own Rosette.

Eclair's Rosette is a bit ridiculous, as it allows her to utilize and even enlarge any sort of cooking utensil for use as a weapon. Be it sending a flurry of plastic knives at a foe, or enlarging a ladle to act like a golf club. She can do it all, and then some. Her favorite utensil to use is a massive golden fork she made herself, and her top physical condition allows her to use all these weapons to their peak, and still give a smile and wave reserved for the sweetest of princesses.

Of course, this too has its drawbacks. Cookery has many uses, but combat is not one of them. And while it may very well be sturdy, taking entire boulders to the hilt does not a whole whisk make. And on the streets of Blühenherz, people don't just carry around crock pots. That'd be way too convenient. Fortunately, Rin's sugar powers can also be used to temporarily affix her weaponry, and the two make a fantastic duo on the battlefield.

Modernrose No. 5 - Shiori Kaede

Rosette - Tea Torrent

The third joining member, Shiori Kaede is a well-known idol. Shiori is an idol on hiatus, who became somewhat withdrawn towards everyone. Somehow, her company is very pleasant to be in, even with her disagreeable personality. Her stage name was Castella-P, but her real name was revealed to be Kaede Shiori. She loved her fans with all her heart and always gave it her best, but when a Rosette user attacked one of her concerts, causing the deaths of three of her fans, she went on hiatus as she could not handle the guilt. She spent a short time using her Rosette against criminals as a vigilant before being dragged into the Modernrose Mafia, of course, by Rin, but at a later date.

Her Rosette is an interesting one. It's essentially aquakinesis, but can turn nearly any liquid into tea. Almost any liquid. Water, milk, air freshener, acid. Shiori's control over the liquid is incredibly precise, and it's almost like an elaborate dance alongside the tea. At her fullest, she can blast holes through entire skyscrapers with enough tea.

That being said, being in an area with no water makes her rather useless. Yes, she can use the water vapor in the air, but that's certainly not a lot. But alongside the rest of the team, she proves to be a powerful ally.

Marchenrose No. 6 - Akemi Maragi

Rosette - Burning of Flower

Akemi Maragi. Small, smart, caring, courteous, crybaby. Those are the words anyone would use to describe the sixth member of the Modernrose Mafia. She scares rather easily, and has severe breathing problems (likely due to her Rosette), but is always there for a friend and will put those she cares about before her even if it costs her her life. She'll probably cry a lot though.

Her Rosette is easily one of the more powerful ones, and is also one that revolves around weapons. Utilizing a fan, she is capable of creating flames. While that may seem simple, it is actually an incredibly powerful technique. as she can use the fan to launch the flames, and even ignite herself, use the fan like a boomerang, and in a pinch create a massive circle of flames around her.

The Rosette itself doesn't much have a weakness, as the weakness is Akemi herself. When she discovered her Rosette for the first time, she wound up creating a large fire in which she was the center. A large amount of smoke got in her lungs, and she was already a weak and frail asthmatic girl. As such, overusing her flames can exaggerate her breathing, and even simple dust clouds can weaken her significantly. Despite this, Akemi prefers to fight on the front lines, and she does a fantastic job of doing so.

Modernrose No. 7 - Chiaki Magaru

Rosette - Wind Nebula

Chiaki is the seventh member of Modernrose, and was the first one who had to be fought in order to join. She's quite polite and ladylike, never tolerating bad manners. She prefers academics to athletics, even though she's bad at studying and is a member of the archery club. Contrary to the air she gives off, she's often the one starting arguments, especially between her and more eccentric members. She's very fond of wind chimes, because they do sound very nice.

Her Rosette, Wind Nebula, is another weaponized one, revolving around her archery skills. She never has any actual arrows, as her Rosette allows her to shoot pure wind. Chiaki winds up doing the whole reach-behind her thing anyway. Due to the arrows being wind, they can do things normal arrows cannot, such as split into multiple arrows mid-flight,  can be launched as more like wind missiles and wind sub-machine gun bullets. It is incredibly powerful.

Although, despite its power, it can be rather easily intercepted. While at max strength, her Rosette can easily break concrete, it can potentially dissipate against hitting too solid of a surface. Another great threat is the wind itself. If a strong enough wind blows against her attacks, they will dissipate as well. Also, wind chimes. Her attacks are completely ineffective against wind chimes. It seems so obvious, but it took fighting someone with a Wind Chime-related Rosette to have them figure it out. Good job.

Modernrose No. 8 - Kaori Mazio

Rosette - Thunder Chu

Kaori is gay. Also, she's the most excitable of the bunch, and is best friends with Chiaki. She joined after Chiaki finally resigned herself into the group. Her electric personality and bouncy eccentricity make her a friendly bundle of bunnies and sugar who has broken a decent amount of arms on accident. Also, sports. Everyone has taken enough soccer balls to the face to know that yes, sports.

Her Rosette revolves around her precious hammer, Mjolnir, although it can really be any sort of blunt metallic object. Her Rosette is similar to Shironia's, as she can manipulate electricity, but as a middle of the road between Shironia's sleeping and waking forms. As such, it's not as strong as the sleepy girl's, but she still poses a threat on the battlefield.

Her weaknesses are definitely less so than Shironia's, as having a less powerful Rosette allows her to fend for herself more actively. Granted, if she loses her hammer, she won't be able to fight with nearly as much power, but it's a small price to pay to be able to command the immense strength of thunder and lightning.

Modernrose No. 9 - Minako Mabufu

Rosette - Ice Prince

Minako Mabufu. Smart, elegant, classy, known as 'The Prince', despite looking nothing like your typical boy. Or even identifying as male for that matter. An absolute treasure, ruler of the fencing club, and probably dating Akemi on the side. No one knows for sure. Despite her outwardly cold personality, she is very warm, loving, and caring if you get to know her. And if she says 'Shall we dance?' to you you will probably pass out. No pressure.

Speaking of passing out, her Rosette allows her to pass out the pain. But unlike the others, her power doesn't require a weapon to utilise it. Her power is her weapon. More specifically, she creates a rapier made out of pure ice that freezes anything it makes contact with (except Minako), and uses it to control ice, snow, and to a degree, water. She can use this to bring down temperatures to subzero, combine it with other girls to create inescapable prisons of ice, and more.

However, ice is still fragile, at least when you make it a rapier. Granted, Minako's finesse mostly allows her to avoid breaking it. And it does still take some time to remake. And, her powers can not be utilized to the fullest extent unlike the other girls. While they channel their Rosettes through weaponry, part of Minako's Rosette IS her weaponry, and without it, her powers are equally as weak as the others without their weapons.

Modernrose No. 10 - Kaname Media

Rosette - Cameratic Eye

Kaname Media is an energetic, peppy, and cheerful teenage girl. Not to the degree of Kaori, but she's great for keeping energy up without being exhausting. She's intelligent, fun, and is also a photographer. She joined when The Modernrose Mafia started using the cafe her family owns as a nicer headquarters. She and a few other members were later put in charge of making the actual headquarters less disgusting. She wasn't even aware of her active Rosette prior to her joining, but she learned that what it did was not a weird coincidence and was actually a mysterious power.

Her Rosette, Cameratic Eye is a fun one. Not only has it given her a photographic memory, but her power revolves around taking photos. With a wink, she can momentarily freeze anything she sees in her right eye. Also, a polaroid photo comes out of her mouth, but she pretends this doesn't happen. As a result, her right eye is discolored to a deep black, but it resembles a camera lens in a way.

While this Rosette is fantastic for support, she herself lacks any fighting ability. Sure, give her a pipe and she'll maybe a get a few good swings in, but she'll probably be punted out of the area by the time she reaches the enemy. Kaname stays on the front lines simply so she doesn't accidentally capture anyone else in her line of sight, but this still requires a significant amount of backing up otherwise goodbye Kaname Media we knew thee well.

Modernrose No. 11 - Glompy Hoshizora

Rosette - Starstruck Eye

Glompy Hoshizora is known as the "cheerful starlight" of the team. He's a bit clingy, but he's a loyal sweetheart through and through who just wants everyone to be happy. He's rarely ever seen without Mikuru by his side, but with good reason to. She essentially rescued him from the life he was living. A few weeks after Kaname's joining, word was caught about a "monster kid in the woods" who "would make your blood vessels burst if you saw them". Mikuru and Shironia decided to check this rumor out for themselves. So they went, and surprisingly, found a little cottage at the top of a hill in a densely wooded area. Upon knocking on the door, shrieks and the sound of clattering and books falling and a person falling down resounded. The lock was a bit rusted, so with a bit of force, Mikuru forced herself in, too see a bandaged up boy covering his eyes, a bit banged up, surrounded by long, curly locks of black and blonde hair. "Don't look at my eyes." He whimpered. "Don't look at my eyes, or you'll die." After a bit of quizzical look sharing, they convinced the boy, whose name was Glompy, to come with them. No one knows much about him, but he sticks close to Mikuru and Shironia, so maybe they know.

His Rosette, Starstruck Eye, is incredibly similar and incredibly different to Kaname's Cameratic Eye. His eyes are the source of his powers, obviously. Upon making eye contact, he can manipulate the emotions of foes. Even if the foe cannot see, the power still works. The 'blood vessels bursting' is simply raising a foes anger, and in turn, blood pressure, to astronomical levels, until their veins pretty much explode. But this is still a very difficult trick, and he can only keep the connection up for five seconds after eye contact is broken, and he can only focus on on enemy.

At the same time, he can also launch small star-shaped projectiles at foes. A more literal version of "starstruck". These stars follow a small arc before landing at their destination. They're not nearly as strong as other Rosettes, but when rapidly fired, they can pack a wallop. However, he cannot run this and manipulate emotions at the same time. Well, he can, but the strain would be so enormous on his body that without some sort of close by healer, he'd probably be brought to the brink of death, or worse. He's run best for support, but he can at least defend himself to some degree, and alongside more offensive members, he can prove himself a worthy adversary.

Modernrose No. 12 - Aoke Akihiko
