Hello Tumblr - it’s been a while. I’ve been holding onto this for a long, long time, because I haven’t felt ready to share it publicly yet. Then why now - you may ask. I’ll explain.
In 2014 I enrolled in a professional school/academy for pastry chefs after a year of utter emotional and professional (I was a student in uni, n.d.) loss. I was at a blank point, and it felt like anything I’d do would eventually end up in failure. Then I realized that making a step towards something creative - which would still have a profitable side for me to work on in the future, since I was still unemployed and definitely needed a job: and then it came to me - that pastry could possibly be a good medium to get up from a state of apathy and depression altogether.
What you see in the picture actually came to mind in a rough shape in early 2015, when the shadowshow video came out. It had occurred to me that I had to dedicate something to the creative talents of Jonna Lee and all the fantastic people working with iamamiwhoami; but I just lacked the artistic talents that many people had displayed on this platform and elsewhere, so I had no clue how to do that. Although...while I was in pastry school, I was introduced to so many different techniques to choose from, to make a piece of art out of edible materials, that I just had to get started. When the academic quarter ended, I was sent to a renowned pastry lab and patisserie in Italy to serve an internship for approximately five months - while there, I had to create three recipes of mine from scratch, and an artistic piece to serve one of the desserts on for my final exam, which would take place at the end of the internship and would eventually grant my colleagues and me our diplomas. This was the chance. I had complete creative freedom over this project, aside for a few technical limitations, and I could work with professionals - which I did - to make it happen. And so, after two months of work, näcken was born.
It stands at approximately 50cm (19,6 inches) and it is made of modelling chocolate (all of the exterior from the carved tree bark to the scroll with musical notes, which were then piped with dark chocolate) and dark chocolate (for the base and three hemispheres - which you can barely see in the pic - that serve as support to make the sculpture stand, and also for the statuette on top of the bark). Under the modelling chocolate there is a structure made entirely of polystyrene, which was refined to fit the shape of what a tree bark would look like IRL. The six little cubes you see on the lower bark - those are the desserts I had to present onto the sculpture, and they’re called Canone Inverso after a musical term relating to classical and especially baroque music - if you’d like to know what it’s made of you can message me privately (I won’t be talking about it here as it would only drag the post further and make it too long for people to even read it). This was only possible with the help of many professionals who took everything I had in mind a step further and contributed to the creation of what you see before your eyes. I won’t name them here as they’re not Tumblr users and will probably never even see this post - I’m posting it here because with the return of Jonna Lee in the music business with her upcoming solo project, it felt appropriate to reignite the passion I’ve had since the beginning of it all for all she has created, and to show her and her collaborators at the To whom it may concern. label HQ how much their work means to me and always will. So this is more of a “thank you” kind of post rather than simply showing off some artwork - this was possibly a once in a lifetime thing that I could hardly ever make again, even with help from other people. It came from the bottom of my heart and will always stand as a small token of my appreciation for all iamamiwhoami has done over the years to change my world for the better. Thank you. M.
A cake sculpted into a bowl of ramen. I really really like making food out of other food.
There's noodles, fish cakes, mushrooms, green onions, boiled egg, chashu pork and nori!
A D&D cake, themed around Tiamat. I had so much fun making the dragon heads.

The Millennium Falcon. This was a really big sculpt, so it has a rice krispy core to keep it light and make it cheaper.
A few cakes this week need pumpkins and decorative gourds on them, so I went ham and made an army of squash.
A Mandalorian and Grogu cake.
