Camera Mode Dial Exercise
A month or so ago we were given a task to fill out a sheet explaining the mode dial. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of the sheet so I’d thought I’d re-do it.
M - manual mode: allows the photographer to be in full control adjusting exposure, shutter speed and ISO.
A - aperture priority: allows aperature to be changed whilst shutter speed and ISO are automatically adjusted for the best possible image.
S - shutter speed priority: same as aperature mode but shutter speed is changed with aperature and ISO being adjusted automatically.
P - programmed auto: basically auto mode but settings such as the flash are able to be changed at your command.
Auto - automatically adjusts all settings for a quick shot. This setting allows flash.
Auto (flash off) - same as auto but without the option for flash.
SCENE - allows the camera to adjust to your surrounding area with options such as ‘night landscape’.
PORTRAIT - automatically adjusts settings for portraits as well as smoothing skin.
LANDSCAPE - perfect for shooting a quick landscape.
CHILD - used for shooting babies and children.
FAST ACTION - perfect for a sporting event as well as quick movement surroundings.
CLOSE UP - beneficial for macro images such as flowers.
EFFECTS - adds interesting colours and tones to images as well as settings such as ‘minature’ which makes an image seem surreal.
