The following entry on "Creepypastas and Unfiction as SCPs" follows the Broken Masquerade canon. In short, is a canon in which the SCP Foundation went public because of an incident that literally wipe out North Korea off the map. Hidding was no longer possible, so any SCP founded and registered after that needed to be public at some regard, at least, if that doesn´t interfiere with it's containment.
SCP-1016: Minecraft sentient beings
At the left: The first sightning recorded of an instance of SCP-1016
At the right: An instance in recent times of an instance of SCP-1016
Classification: Euclid
Special containment procedures [Updated after the Broken Masquerade event]:
The population should be instructed that any instance of SCP-1016 should be recorded, noted, and also classified within the anomaly classification register. This registration must be carried out under the supervision of a Class-C personnel on an instalation avable to visitors.
Any allegation or claim provided by the group known as the Serpent's Hand must be prosecuted under the D-105 jurisdiction.
Item:
SCP-1016 is a collection of sentient anomalous entities restricted to the video game Minecraft. These entities come from different origins, but most are generally considered to be placed under the same species. SCP-1016 will usually appear under the guise of an average Minecraft player; however, their anomalous properties will manifest themselves when communicating. In most cases, they have a username not registered within Microsoft accounts, or they will appear without any username at all. They will also not appear in the lists of active players on the server. They have limited communication, however they are able to communicate through the game's internal chat or also through the computer speakers, however any other type of poltergeist-style communication is completely ruled out as a possibility.
While most instances of SCP-1016 are not related to harmful effects per se, it is clear that some instances feed off the emotions of the players with whom they were hosted on the servers. Instances of SCP-1016 have been able to enter both multiplayer and single-player worlds without any restrictions, and there doesn't seem to be any difference between the Java and Bedrock versions, being exclusive to the Minecraft video game (In-depth investigations related to similar entities registered in Roblox and GMod worlds are being processed).
The entities appear to originate from different sources, some claiming to be created and others to have been born independently. However, their knowledge of each other's existence is limited to a social circle equivalent to that of an ordinary person, but within a digital environment. Entities should not be expected to know of each other simply because they are of the same species.
People who have interacted with instances of SCP-1016 have shown a fairly strong empathy towards the entities, which mostly have a mental capacity equivalent to that of an average human being, only with limitations in speech or communication that also vary depending on mental development, again equivalent to that of an average human being, showing signs of neurodivergence. This has also led to the population developing codependent or intimate relationships with instances of SCP-1016.
SCP-1016 have shown little control over the mechanics of the video game, sometimes having a rather accelerated control, but sacrificing their ability to be closer to the average player. These modifications are usually limited to world generation environments, creature spawning in the game, or modifications to the game itself through commands. No instances of SCP-1016 modifying the user's computer have been recorded.
Recovery:
Instances of SCP-1016 have occurred since the Minecraft video game was in its earliest stages. It is speculated that they may be remnants of entities that were worked on in the Alpha and Beta versions of the game; however, most of these are also recorded based on testimonies from users who, in the early stages of the video game's development, claimed to have encountered unnatural, bizarrely generated structures that they had not built, and even players and entities with pixelated white eyes staring at them in caverns.
The foundation kept an eye on most of these sightings; however, as these were restricted to timely sightings and information about them was always under several layers of falsification and digital garbage, it was set aside as a form of self-restraint based on the discrediting of humanity regarding the phenomenon.
The incident "Broken Masquerade" brought with it the re-evaluation of the entities as well as a reclassification of several that were kept in their different categories, all now regrouped in the present SCP-1016. Under pressure from constant protests and demands for anomaly rights and the growing popularity of the group, the Serpent's Hand's classification and securing of SCP-1016 has been re-evaluated. The population is then urged to keep a constant record of any instances of SCP-1016.
INTERVIEW:
The following is a transcription of an interview of a civilizan that guarded an instance of SCP-1016 on their Minecraft world. They is a non binary young adult, 25 years old at the time of the interview, living alone at an apartment in [REDACTED] USA; Dr. [REDACTED] is in charge of the interview as part of their psychiatric medication.
The interview was done inside the videogame Minecraft using a private server and in-game voice chat.
- - -
Doctor: Hi [REDACTED] How have you been?
Civilian: Hi doc. I´m doing... fine, yeah.
Doctor: Well, that tone sounds diferent from what we used to.
The civilian started to get nervious.
Civlian: Oh yeah? I haven´t... realized it. Is it bad?
Doctor: No, no, not at all. To the oposite. You sound happy.
Civilian: Oh, right... I... didn´t though it was that notorious.
Doctor: Did something happend to you to be this happy?
Civlian: Well it´s... it´s complicated. I don´t know if...
Dr. [REDACTED] start to notice uncomformity with the civilian, so he is ordered to reinforce trust via communicator.
Doctor: [REDACTED] You know I´m not here to take away anything that you have. Is not my job and I´m just a therapist. You can say it if you like it to.
Civilian: Well... is about [REDACTER]
Doctor: Oh, the instance of SCP-1016, right?
Civilian: Yeah... that. We... we kept talking more often and...
Doctor: Uhum, go on...
Civilian: Well, I had to... if I didn´t do it, I think I could...
Doctor: I´m sorry [REDACTED], what are you talking about?
Civilian: It has to do with what we talked about last session! I swear! Is nothing bad... or, at least I don´t think is that BAD. It´s just... In the last three months I´ve never been this happy and comfortable. And... even if I would like to take it to the next step, I´m well aware that this isn´t possible for their limitations.
Dr [REDACTED] began to comprehend the situation. It is ordered to not over react and keep it cool with the civilian.
Doctor: Ok, but... it´s SCP-1016 aware of it? I mean, does he agree?
Civilian: Yeah, well... Oh god. I´m sorry, so much has happend.
Doctor: It´s okay. Please, continue.
Civilian: He said "Yes"... Doctor, he said "YES".
The civilian began to sob a little. Dr [REDACTED] is ordered not to intervene.
Civilian: I know it sounds stupid. We are not even the same... type of living being but... I... don´t know, I guess he is the most intimate I've been with someone... EMOTIONALLY, I MEAN EMOTIONALLY!
Doctor: It´s Ok. I get it. And what does SCP-1... I mean [REDACTED] have to say at it? Is he happy too?
Civilian: Oh Doctor... If you could see him that day. It´s weird considering how distant we were the first days we met. He´s even more protective of me and we talk for hours and hours... Sometimes I don't even play the game anymore, just turn on the computer as we speak.
Doctor: I understand. It´s like a more... complex "long distance relationship", isn´t?
Civilian: Ehehe... You said it, Doc.
Doctor: Interesting... Is there anything that worries you about all of this?
Civilian: Well, now that you mention it... [REDACTED] has been worried about one particular thing... I don´t know what it is, but I think is abput others like him...
Doctor: Another SCP-1016? How´s that?
Civilian: I don't have a name for it... [REDACTED] said I´m better safe not knowing it's name. But I think is from where he came from.
Doctor: Well, is well known that the instances of SCP-1016 have their own social structure beyond the code of the game, but no one share the same origin...
Civilian: I'm not saying that, it's like... more like... Where all of them came from. Like their creator or father. Or at least that's how I interpreted it from what he told me.
Doctor: I'm getting it... Something dangerous... is he with us in this server right now? I would like to speak with him after we finished or session.
Civilian: Oh! He is, actually. He just joined.
Doctor: Really? I recived no notification about it.
Civilian: That happend sometimes. Come, I´ll present you...
[The rest of the interview and the interactions with SCP-1016 are redacted by order of the O-5]
End of the interview
NOTE:
We know well that we cannot go back to the days when the foundation was anonymous to the public, although I sometimes hear comments from people who would like that same thing. However, although we would have loved to contain the instances of SCP-1016 in a computer, the truth is that its consciousness makes the sympathizers of the rights of anomalies have us on the ropes. Now, that doesn't mean that our job has become easier. We no longer have to deal with hiding, but with preventing any type of major incident that traditional containment could have prevented.
The instances of SCP-1016 are autonomous and collaborative enough to keep us interacting without major risks with the civilian public (Although we exclude the fact that they had a subculture based on stalking and codependency of players), and although we do not find a relationship between them and other SCPs found in other games, it must be taken into account that this is only the tip of the iceberg.
What they call "The Broken Script" is a potential Keter-class threat whose function, strategy and even if it is real we are completely unaware of, but it has them so upset and terrified that they are beginning to beg for our protection and, once again, that of Serpent's Hand. If more instances of SCP-1016 similar to that thing begin to manifest, I will have no choice but to revoke all rights granted to SCP-1016. I would prefer that to pleasing the majority for more people to lose their lives in a stupid little cube game.
And for the last time, testing on SCP-5011 related to instances of SCP-1016 is revoked. Don't ask any more about it. As far as we're concerned, even instances of SCP-1016 are terrified of other digital entities.
End of Report.
