“It is beautiful in here isn’t it?” 

“Yeah…” I trailed off, gazing around. The tiny crystals were giving off an amazing glow. I couldn’t believe that I was finally here. Here in Illum, ready to build my own lightsaber. A real one, not just the training sabers from the academy. 

“So now what do we do?” I asked, running fingers along a patch of blue crystals. Would I have a blue crystal, like Master?

“You mean what do you do?” Master Yarrik smiled. I stopped in my tracks and turned back to him. 

“What? You’re not going to help me?” I turned around to face who had become more like a father-figure and a close friend over the past few years. “I really don’t know what I’m doing here. You’ve done this before!” I pleaded. “You know!”

“True, as in I know what I did. It’s different for each padawan. But trust me, you’ll what to do.”He looked around and sighed. “It’s all been leading up to this…”

“…and then you’ll be knighted later this week” he continued. “It seems like yesterday you were brought to me.” 

“I remember…” It was my first trip to Coruscant. One of the other Jedi Masters had found me in my village after a Separatist attack and brought me in front of the council. There was a lot of talk about having “gifts”, being highly “sensitive” and having “potential.”

And then they presented me in front of Master. I’d never met a Twi’Lek before and didn’t know what to think. After a rocky couple of months we learned much about each and over the years we became close as he trained me in the ways of the Force…

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, focusing on those happy memories. How I came into my own from a youngling on my first mission…

…we had been sent on a diplomatic mission in the mid rim. We were sent to quash rumors of a war brewing between two clans. It was I who helped the clan leaders come to an agreement. 

I smiled at the memory…and continued I think on it. Holding onto the memory and going through each of the following missions. How Master and I grew close… 

…going through all the missions we’ve been on, the training sessions at the temple and bonding moments over the years. All leading up to a few days ago when we embarked to Illum…

“Gemine!” I opened my eyes at the abrupt voice. 

“What?”

“Look what you did!” he smiled and looked down. I followed his gaze and gasped.

There floating at my waist was a durasteel lightsaber hilt. Waiting for me to reach out and grab it. “Go ahead. Take it and activate it, get a feel.”

My fingers wrapped around the smooth hilt and flipped the switch. The blade burned brightly reflecting off of the crystals embedded into the walls. 

“What do you think?”
