I don't think I'm emotionally ready to say goodbye to scruffy

gotta fulfill the fate of your mod names during the games, which means:

mod staci goes bald during their elimination

mod julia gets thrashed in the ninth episode

mod scruffy gets crushed in the middle of a challenge

mod courtney is eliminated by rigged votes

in hindsight, entitled was probably not the right word.

Anyway Scruffy said that Patrick and Julia are incompatible because "he knows nothing about her" despite it having been 4-4.5 weeks from Scruffy's perspective - more than enough time to get to know each other.

More time than Scruffy spent with Julia.

Scruffy doesn't know that they only spent a few hours together, so that line is either them lying to themselves or they already believe that their 2 week partnership as competitors is worth more than the 4.5 weeks Patrick and Jules interacted as regular people.

There is an interesting detail in the fact that Scruffy has never called Julia by her preferred nickname, Jules. You'd expect the person closest to her to call her that. Not in the interview. Not in the Playa de Losers episode. Never. Seems like they're not as close as we think.

Another interesting line is "Patrick's style of antagonism directly conflicts with Julia's". This shows that Scruffy sees Patrick and, more concerningly, Julia as static people who act the same regardless of their environment.

This is awful because it is very likely that Julia talked with Scruffy about things outside of the competition and acted like her real life self - and this line implies that Scruffy just... Didn't care...

And that makes Julia's arc in TTI more heartbreaking. The one person she missed and wanted to be around didn’t see the real Julia. The real Jules.

Jules talked to Scruffy. Worked together with them. Thought she finally an ally. A friend.

But instead, Scruffy idolised a false simulacrum of her. Placed Julia on a pedestal. But there is very little room on a pedestal, and Jules is beginning to lose her balance.

In conclusion, Scruffy is in love with Julia, the ideal villain, rather than Jules, the actual person and believes that their competition-centered bond is more valuable than a (hypothetically) naturally-developed romance outside of the competition.
