Headcanon #1
Solaris used to either be a creature of legend that would occasionally peacefully visit ancient Soleanna, or was the original leader before appointing a king/queen, thus making that bloodline chosen by him.
Evidence: The scepter of darkness resembling Solaris’ true form, rather than the stylized eagle-like version despite being an ancient artifact, meaning he was seen before in his true form for a long enough time to create an item with the ability to, at least for the most part, match his strength and overpower him and be sculpted to resemble him. This implies he not only hung around long enough to be observed and accurately sculpted, but for people to see his power and desire it for themselves.
Headcanon #4
Solaris is entirely covered in an invisible layer of downy feathers. The headdress Elise wears are some of those feathers from centuries ago that have lost their glow.
Evidence: Heavy feather symbolism in Soleanna, and the bird-like nature of Solaris. Plus, what else could his skin feel like? Scaled? Smooth? Feathers, I tell you.

Headcanon #6
Soleanna is built on canals and is called the City of Water so it could have a chance of surviving the flames of disaster. They believed that they were the only ones who could calm Solaris' eventual rage, so scholars began to study him closely so they could be prepared. The scepter of darkness was created in case of being unable to soothe him. Though, as time went on and after someone defeated Solaris, forcing him into the form of the Flame of Hope, the knowledge became legend and he became revered rather than considered a dangerous threat.
Evidence: Several sources inspired this, though I cannot describe them coherently here.
Headcanon #5
Solaris likely would have complied with the Duke of Soleanna's request to bring the queen back if he was asked that directly.
Evidence: Solaris is rumored to be benevolent and seems to dislike liars as told by his theme, and the fact Mephiles never lies, only dodges questions and leaves out details. Turning back the clock on one person is more reasonable than every mistake ever made, corrected.
Headcanon #3
Mephiles is crystalline due to light photons being able to be frozen into a crystal structure in the real world, and is a perfect example of the actual shadow of a flame; weak, but still most definitely there.
