I'm starting to apply to colleges soon, and I'm very excited! However, I need to ask my teachers for recommendations and I'm not sure how to do so. I know who I'm going to ask, and I did very well in both of their classes, but I don't know how to ask them for recommendations without sounding overly prideful or, alternatively, not confident. What would be a good script for confidently but politely asking my teachers for college recommendations?
i recommend asking your teachers for recommendations during office hours (if they have any) or before/after class.Â
you: hi, [teacher name]. iâm applying for colleges soon, and iâm very excited. since iâm starting that process soon, i was wondering if you could write a letter of recommendation for me. teacher: [yes/no answer]
the teacher might also ask you about what colleges youâre applying to, what you plan on studying in college, what specific points youâd like them to touch on in their letter, etc. for example, if youâre asking an english teacher, or if youâre going into an english major, you might want to ask them to specifically touch on your writing skills, i.e.:
teacher: what would you like me to specifically talk about in the letter? you: iâm looking at studying english when iâm in college, so would you be able to write about my essays that we wrote in this class?Â
most teachers (in my own personal experience) are usually really chill about writing letters of recommendation for their students, especially students who did well in their classes. intimidating authority figures like teachers are scary to approach, but you should be perfectly ok!!

hey, i haven't ever been to a barbershop or hairdressers before, and I'm wondering if you could help me with what generally happens and is said at a hairdressers? And if appointments are made, etc? thanks for everything you do on this blog, it's super helpful <3
sure thing!! (iâm gonna put this under a read more because this got reaaaaaally long whoa)
appointments are generally made, yes, but you can also just walk into some shops to get haircuts depending on what type of place it is and what type of cut/style you want. cheaper run-of-the-mill barber shops like great clips will usually have barbers on stand by, while more expensive places and salons will be harder to get walk-in haircuts and youâll most likely have to make appointments for those.
if you want to make appointments, you can do one of three things:
make appointments online, if the place youâre going to has that sort of thing available
call the shop and schedule an appointment that way
go to the shop and schedule an appointment with the front desk. this is convenient if they have an appointment open at that very moment and the front desk person can get you in now
talking to the receptionist might go like this:
you: hi, iâd like to schedule a hair appointment.them: okay, what would you like done?you: [list anything youâd like done; either just a trim, a full haircut, dye job, styling, etc. if you donât know what exactly you want, you can ask them and they can list options, and you can pick from those]them: all right, and what time would you like your appointment?you: [if you have a date/time of day in mind, you can say that. examples include] afternoons work best for me // sometime before the 24th // any time during the weekend would be bestthem: okay, we have [x, y, z] times open if any of those work for you?you: [x] sounds great them: okay, and can i have a name please?you: [your name]them: okay, so iâve got [your name] for an appointment with a hairdresser at [x time and date], is that correct?you: yes
some fancier places might ask if you prefer a particular hairdresser that they have, but if youâve never been to a place before, you donât know any of the dressers, so you donât have to worry about it. that questionâs usually for the regulars.Â
---
when you get to a hairdresserâs, theyâll sign you in, and make you wait in the front area until your hairdresser is done with the person before you. theyâll lead you to your chair and sit you down, and tie a little sheet around your neck that drapes over your shoulders that is there so that hair wonât get all over you.Â
theyâll ask you what you want to get done to your hair. this is where i start to struggle, cause itâs hard for me to explain what i want most of the time. if you know what you want, though, go for it. usually i just bring in pictures of other peopleâs hair and go âi want that pretty muchâ, which is perfectly okay to do!! this is also where you mention if you want any styling or dyeing to happen.
theyâre probably going to wash your hair before they cut it, and they take you to a little sink to do that. it takes about five minutes and then they start to cut it to what you want it to be
the stylists will also want to talk to you the entire time. theyâre going to talk you into the ground. most people can do this no problem, but theyâre going to ask you about your personal life and your school and work and maybe bring in other customers and stylists nearby into the conversation, and i personally can never do it. i usually end up drained when i walk out of the place.Â
anyway once youâre done and satisfied with what you have theyâll send you back out to the front to pay for what you got, and youâre all done!!
Hey, the personality types thing is a virus. You might want to delete the post and look in ur tumblr settings to delete it.
oh shit okay, i dont think any of the mods reblogged it and it found its way onto our blog of its own accord, maybe? i don't see it personally, but that's probably because i have the post blockedÂ
thank you for bringing this up, i'll get rid of it!
