i made a $5 donation, I'd really like Nick/Schmidt - Nick finding excuses to kiss Schmidt after the "gay nick" episode because he decided he liked it
Yay! Also, Iâm going to write another fic about them getting forced to kiss during a game of True American for SURE.
(You, too, can get a guaranteed ficlet by donating $1 or more to Fair Fight 2020 to fight voter suppression!)Â
It wasnât even a good kiss.
And Nickâs kisses are normally very good kisses because heâs very good at kissing. Itâs one of his few talents. Thatâs probably why he canât stop thinking about how bad kissing Schmidt was and whether Schmidt thought that it was bad becauseâheâs not completely sure that Schmidt wouldnât go around talking about it.
It could hurt Nickâs kissing reputation which he just canât afford now that heâs on the dating scene again. Back in the saddle. As it were.
Thatâs definitely the only reason heâs thinking about kissing Schmidt. Proving himself.
He canât think of another one.

âYou want to kiss Schmidt,â Jess says, slowly.
âI need you to support me in this,â Nick says. âItâs so I can sleep with women.â
â. . .back that up,â Jess says, making a face.
Nick sighs and explains it again. Itâs a simple idea: kiss Schmidt so he knows how good that he is and then Schmidt will tell everyone because thatâs who he is as a person. He talksâall the time and, a lot of the time, itâs about Nick.
âAre you sure you donât want to kiss Schmidt,â Jess asks, cautiously, âbecause youâI mean, want to kiss Schmidt?â
âThatâs insane,â Nick says. âYou sound insane right now.â
Jess is quiet for a long moment, face going kind of soft and weird like sheâs going to make him talk about feelings, but she just reaches over to tousle his hair and say, âAlright, buddy. Letâs rig us a game of True American.â
Jess is the smartest person that Nick has ever met.

âSo,â Schmidt says, shuffling on his feet when the door is shut behind them. âWe doing this?â
âItâs the game, man,â Nick says, as calmly as he can.
âWe could just say we did it,â Schmidt says. âItâs not like we havenât technically kissed before. I canâroughly describe it.â
â. . .how would you describe it, exactly?â Nick asks. Â
âEh,â Schmidt says, after a beat, shrugging.
Nickâs already drunk as hell and heâs here to win.
âStay right there,â he says, pointing at Schmidt before he immediately turning to go to the bathroom and frantically brush his teeth. He stares at himself in the mirror for a few seconds before wiping toothpaste off his mouth with the back of his hand and immediately going back to grab Schmidtâs face and kiss him.
Really kiss him. Schmidt makes a surprised noise and almost pulls away before he pulls Nick closer instead, clutching the back of his shirt. Nick didnât actually know what he thought was going to happenâhe so rarely knows, before he does something, what the consequences will beâbut it wasnât this. They stumble backward until Schmidtâs back is pressed against the wall and Nick is catching his breath, breathing the kiss with a gasp.
âNick,â Schmidt says, softly. âWhat in the worldââ
âIt was for the game,â Nick says. Something about actually hearing Schmidtâs voice when he can also feel Schmidtâs breath on his face sobers him up a little. âIâm a man of my word.â
"Okay. Sure. You know, for what itâs worth,â Schmidt says, âI, uh--I get it now.âÂ
âGet what?âÂ
âThe. . .Nick Miller thing,â Schmidt says. âThe appeal. Iâve never been kissed like that before, like you were about to go off to war in the--in the forties.â
â. . .I really wanted you to know that Iâm a good kisser, Schmidt,â Nick says, faintly.Â
âI mean, message received, clearly, but--why?â
Nick really thought he had answers but nothing makes sense anymore so he just. Kisses Schmidt again. To distract him.Â
Definitely the only reason.
