Not Quite the Classics
Colin Mochrie’s book takes his work on “whose line is it anyway?” and shoves it into a novel. Mochrie takes the first line from literary classics and the last line and then fills in the middle with his own ideas, improvising as he goes along. Some of the classics he adapted include Frankenstein, The Cat in the Hat, and Slaughterhouse Five.
Although the novel was a bit hit-or-miss, (as are most forms of comedy), I enjoyed reading it. I liked how everything was fast-paced and broken into smaller short stories and poems. It made the novel easier to digest and also ensured that I spent less time reading the things I wasn’t as interested in. (It also meant that I spent less time reading the things I really enjoyed). In any case, I would suggest giving this novel a read. You will not be disappointed when you see Colin’s adaptation of the Cat in the Hat!
