Hai Sully I just finished higurashi gao + sotsu anime recently the reboot. And was like Oo I should read umineko. Do u think I should read higurashi properly first or can I just read umineko I do plan on reading higurashi don't get me wrong here ^_^
HAIIII HI HIII YAYYY YOU SHOULD READ UMINEKO <3 i haven’t seen gou/sotsu though i know what it is about i have not heard the best but i do think satorika codependency 1000% FOREVERRR im so curious what you thought of it, esp if you haven’t engaged with any other wtc before if im understanding correctly?
to answer yr question it doesn’t reaally matter tbh & i think you should go for whichever one interests you more first :3 but gun to my head if you do plan on engaging w both at some point, higurashi does make more logical sense to start with, the two stories aren’t directly related but having some higurashi knowledge does supplement umineko’s narrative & some parts of the mystery (and if you’ve seen gousotsu already, i don’t think umineko could spoil anything abt higurashi that you don’t already know, and that show is already doing setup work that makes the higurashi-referential threads in umineko start to become visible).
just based on MY impression of your tastes my instinct is to wonder if higurashi will be more your speed, but i am also extremely biased in the other direction #uminekuvr4ever (i like higurashi too and think it accomplishes different things more effectively such as horror & atmosphere BUT in terms of themes & content i admit it resonates w me less), and me saying “read higurashi first” inserts another million word long visual novel into the timeline which means i have to wait longer to hear what you think of umineko my awesome friend……. 😮💨 but yeah i’d recommend that you start with whichever is compelling you more in this moment, genuinely (and it sounds like your thought was abt reading umineko specifically, so go w your gut)—only if you need a tiebreaker would i say start w higurashi on principle alone ^^
