Hands to shield a heart - Lokius Poem for Whumptober days 9+10
To tell you a secret
would pick me apart
Take scissors to the strings of my heart
Lips sewn shut, I imprison evidence of betrayals
that would paint your eyes with hatred for me,
Confirming to you, I drowned like Narcissus
How you told me that I would die
Like a moth to a flame
In her eyes, which are also mine
Yet,
You make it okay to come undone,
You knew not the way I burned for you,
How kindness feels scalding to the touch-starved
Iād offered her like a token to win your hand and trust,
She used her lips to stall me in my shock and sent me back where I belonged,
For you I had pledged my loyalty to
And she tangled me in secrecy
Took my choice from me
Yet, you made it okay to come undone,
because come for me,
join me in my melancholy,
pull me from the waves of where I sank into old habits,
berated me in ways that softened my sharp edges to your truth,
taught me those habits die harder when you are afraid to slaughter them,
I chose to save her life
but would burn bridges to get back to you.
You have the hands to shield a heart,
A golden exquisite glow,
Made to the coldness of those raised to live in ice,
Order and Chaos,
I break for you, I burn for you,
I am remade for you,
I sacrifice myself for you,
for us all
For you made it okay to come undone,
and be remade, all in one.
