Day 22 of my Yoga challenge and feeling great. Feeling loose. Feeling mobile. Feeling zen. One of my favourite yoga poses is the lunge. The lunge comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be simple or quite complex. But most of us these days have tightness in the hip flexors and this is a great one to counteract that. It also strengthens and stretches at the same time as well as promoting balance. A great variation of the low lunge is to have your knee on a cushion on the ground and toes pointing up. Engage your core and squeeze the back glutes. You can raise your arms to intensify the stretch. Don’t forget to the breathe. Nasal breathing is best. Breathe into the diaphragm. Deep breathing allows you to tap into your parasympathetic nervous system, your relaxation response. This allows your body to then ease into the stretch. Complex?
