⁣ Samsung Galaxy Note 10+⁣ Taken on 02/07/2020.⁣ ⁣ Moasca sits on top of a big green hill with its impressive castle dominating the skyline.⁣ ⁣ Why build a castle there? Because back in the Middle Ages, Moasca was at the centre of trading routes leading to the Ligurian region. The construction of the castle was a way for the village to assert its authority in light of countless battles between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines — rival factions supporting the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor.⁣ ⁣ In 1308, after a long siege that lasted twenty-two days, the Guelphs stormed into the castle which was the last outpost of the Ghibelline De Castello family. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 24mm | 1/4000s | f/4 | ISO 100 {Photo 1}⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 29mm | 1/1600s | f/4 | ISO 100 {Photo 2}⁣ Both taken on 02/07/2020.⁣ ⁣ Dotted around Piemonte – specifically in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti, Alessandria, Vercelli and Turin – are big benches, known in Italian as 'le Panchine Giganti'.⁣ ⁣ The first big bench was designed by a vehicle designer called Chris Bangle in 2010 and, since then, big benches have popped up big time (pardon the pun!). A project has even been set up for so-called big bench hunters who prefer to go off the beaten path and explore the rural countryside.⁣ ⁣ In fact, given that these big benches are installed high up on the Piedmontese hills, bench enthusiasts are forced to leave their cars behind and delve into the heart of pretty villages, strolling through every street corner and trying local products. I think that's one reason these benches have sprung up so quickly.⁣ ⁣ Another reason could be that, when sitting on these two-metre high benches, you enjoy the panorama of splendid countryside from a very different perspective. On a physical level, it feels like you're a child sitting on your mum or dad's lap; on a mental level, you're discovering something new like a child. What a wonderful and unique concept!⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ I got to Moasca by bus ('Gelosobus') on the Asti–Canelli line. The bus stops at the bottom of the village, so a 10–15-minute uphill walk awaits you.
