Hello! Could you guys help me with something? it's name help. I have a korean character born in America whose name is Ophelia. She was adopted by an american family when she was older, but now I'm unsure if it's erasing her korean identity by giving her such name. (the fc is joy, from red velvet). I wanted to give her a nickname in korean, something her bio parents used to call her, but i don't know any nicknames that could work for that
i don’t think you’re erasing her korean identity, since you keeping her family korean (even if it’s just one of the bio parents), but if you feel like it maybe she can have a korean name ? like ,, if she lived with them for a while they could call her a certain name or left a note with it or even she can choose her own korean name! it’s really normal for koreans to change their names sometimes so wouldn’t be that bad! here you can find a list with some names and here you can found some surnames.
but i’ll have to tell you that nicknames are not the most normal thing in korea, not even for kids, the most i could found was ‘princess’ or ‘cutiepie’ in korean besides that is mostly son/daughter (but even those are rare depends on the family) or including an “a/ya” in the end of the name (the ‘a’ is used with names that end with consonants, while ‘ya’ with names that end with vowels. for exemple “siah” would be siah-a and “bora” would be bora-ya).
i’m hoping that i helped but if you need any more help with anything, just send us a new ask or call us on the chat! <3
