Jimmy is a character who’s always been very personal to me and dear to my heart. At the same time, he represented a part of my past that I had to spend a long time coming to terms with. There was a period where my feelings about him were much more complicated, and this piece came from the beginning of me learning to see him in a more positive light.

I just wanted to draw something simple — Jimmy being happy. For some reason I always associated him with possums, so I drew this dumb little angel possum version of him, and that was that…I guess it’s meant to visually capture the feeling of a nostalgic ideal of a happy adolescence.

I was having a hypergraphia episode and made Jimmy in MSpaint out of text and Wingdings glyphs; hypergraphia is a symptom I experience from Geschwind Syndrome, essentially it means I have episodes where I have a strong unbreakable compulsion to draw and/or write — it’s a neurological thing. Sometimes it’s connected to my epilepsy, but not always.

Another symptom of Geschwind Syndrome I experience is hyperreligiosity; making this was like a prayer of sorts to me.
