a bucky winter soldier starter for @mkbell
The Winter Soldier didn’t have access to mission protocols beyond what was deemed necessary and wouldn’t ever ask for it. But if he did, it would be very clear that the Asset was briefed before the main briefings in case of malfunction - fewer witnesses and fewer important people in the line of fire. The Winter Soldier simply knew that this was the way of things.Â
Orders had to be be acknowledged prior to any other instructions given to the whole mission team - this too allowed for the handlers to commit the Winter Soldier to any internal cleanups that might need to take place. The Winter Soldier had no opinion on office politics.Â
He had, however, been activated long enough to rank handlers and operatives in terms of how severely they reacted to his mistakes. Emotion was foreign - as was attachment - but it would incur a minor loss of productivity to kill those who did not go out of their way to punish every hair over the line. Still, the Winter Soldier could never disobey orders nor could unsolicited information be offered up. Personal observations, while not entirely private, were not mission critical.Â
Mission parameters had been laid out: it ranked as a challenging one, but not overly so. All the Asset knew is what it had been told, but again, the length of time they had kept their weapon awake had allowed an internal classification system to form. Nothing in the Asset’s head was ever truly private, but the right questions were not always asked.
This internal system, however, did not take precedence over taking in his surroundings. Eyes flickered over faces as the Winter Soldier entered the room, surrounded. Always surrounded in bases. Familiarity never entered into analysis. Positioning and threat level did. Every single person, every single time.Â
Intelligence was to be retrieved, the mission protected by the Soldier’s skill. In line with the private mission instructions. This one was high ranking and valuable enough to live. “We will leave soon.” The Winter Soldier did not speak of his own accord except on missions - the Soldier’s voice sounding appropriately rusty for that reason. “You are prepared?”Â
