My very first ever MKAL is this year's @stephenandpenelope Twists & Turns Shawl, and I could not be more excited, especially after giving that yarn a good squish. I picked the Life in the Long Grass Agate Dawn kit, and it is just so pretty. I can't wait for the first clue!

Further MKAL updates!
I'm finished all the cable stuff (section 7) and I have all my little I-cords placed in their spots but not fully attached.
It's a little hard to tell but I hecked up the first twisted cable section by not actually twisting the cables 🫠I didn't actually watch the tutorial for that section, wanting to see if I could follow the pattern as written. I watched a bit for the second section and realized what I hadn’t done and fixed my technique then. I'm not sure if I want to undo that whole bit and redo it correctly or just leave it as a fun mistake. I doubt anyone but me will notice it, it really isn't that bad, and I've left all my other little mistakes anyway.
This thing is huge! I didn't measure the wingspan tonight, but it's now the full width and quite big. I'm not sure if that's correct, since I haven't measured it, or if it's because I had to up my needle size to keep the gauge (whoops turns out I knit very tightly).
Another knitting update:
A mere 2 days later and I've made way more progress?? I'm no longer sold on the yellow tho, but I'm stuck with it now so oh well. I'm dreading the cable sections, mostly because I have almost no experience with cable knitting, but I've been watching the pattern videos which are incredibly helpful so I think it'll be okay. I gotta say, the bit I'm doing now is pretty much entirely purl and I am not nearly as fast at purling as I am at knitting.

The second clue dropped today for the Westknits MKAL and I'm still in the middle of clue 1. It's fine, I was starting to realize I wasn't gonna be able to keep up with the updates.
I'm currently at my parents' house and i found this little reading light! It's rather dim in this room so it's really helpful dang.
Progress on my Westknits MKAL! Under a cut for spoilers?? (Knitting spoilers, who knew!)
i just finished the third repeat? the second repeat? idk, i have 3 contrast stripes and 4 main color stripes. i skipped ahead to the end of the first tutorial video to see what the end result of this section is supposed to be, so i tested the loopy bit for fun.
so far i haven’t had any issues with techniques, probably because i was following the video for the first few rows instead of the written pattern which was really really helpful. i am however moving slowly, but also i work a lot and have other stuff so i can’t just spend 20 hours straight banging this out. right now each color stripe is taking me 30-45 minutes, depending on how much attention i’m paying to whatever youtube video i have playing for background. really it’s all the casting on and binding off that’s taking so long.
anyway, i’ve come to accept that i probably won’t be able to keep pace with the updates, but since i’m not really reading any social media stuff about the pattern it doesn’t matter. i’ll finish it when i finish it! i also have an idea of something i want to knit for halloween, and my back-up pair of socks that i seem to always have going....
(also i’m trying to finish svsss #2 in the next few days, and then i have a staycation where i have a list of cdramas to binge so i’m not sure how speedy i’ll be at this project)
