First impressions of the Oktava MK 012
A pair of these russian SDC's arrived in the post for me today, each one accompanied by the basic cardiod cap and a -10db pad module. They sound rather nice from my early experiences with them, and the interchangeable caps are surely going to be a handy feature in future. They are very clean sounding microphones, very low noise at high gain levels. They perform better in this respect than Rode NT5's, for sure. The pleasant little box they come in is fitted with adequate foam padding to house the mics, clips, -10db pad modules, and all the available caps. A future proof container indeed. The included clips, however, are a little stiff. This makes for a sturdy and overall trustworthy clip, but it's quite easy for the clip to scratch the, rather pleasing, finish of the body. Overall; I'm happy with this purchase.
