Day 2 of Kombatmas: Fire

Kai joins The Roster

A young member of the White Lotus society. Kai was just a little kid when the White Lotus started their alliance with the Edenian Regime. This generally put more pressure on the training of the younglings, including Kai, who now were also taught to fight alongside the Edenian Regime in their ‘pacification’ of all realms.

By that time, Liu Kang had already become an experienced enough warrior to impart lessons on his own to children, and he was actually one of the favorite teachers. Kai in particular admired him, not just for his skills, but for his dedication and kindness. He once went to meet him to ask him for personal lessons, which Liu Kang gladly accepted.

After some days imparting Kai lessons, Liu Kang took the time to meet the little one more. He discovered that Kai had been once an orphan of the city of Detroit, before being found and offered a home by members of the White Lotus in the city. Liu Kang sympathized with him, and could perfectly see in which situation he was now. He had grown and walked a long way already. Now he was the one in Lord Raiden and Master Bo’ Rai Cho’s position, the mentor figure an orphan needed. He naturally put all his soul into fulfilling that role.

As the years passed, Kai became a young adult, and quite a skillful warrior at that point, respected as one of the best of his age. He had learned many skills from Liu Kang, as his mastery in pyromancy shows. Liu Kang is quite proud of him, as he won’t stop telling Kai everytime he can, to both his happiness and embarrassment. And, of course, with his grown skills, he was ready to join the battle for ‘peace’.

Having taken an example from Liu Kang, Kai is currently also convinced that the ways of the Edenian Regime, while flawed, ultimately have the potential to forever end all conflict across the realms, even if he is aware of the ‘necessary sacrifices’ it will take. As such, he fights to build the world he dreams of. One in which he could travel through the world, the realms even, with the confidence that the objective he has been prepared to fulfill would have been already, and thus there would be no menace for the realms which could disturb him. He thinks it would help him find himself as a person in more meaningful ways outside of combat, discover his passions, reflect about what way he could take his life from then on. As he sums it up to friends, he wants to ‘wander the Earth, search for his soul. That kind of thing’. But, of course, first ‘peace’ will need to be established.

Liu Kang’s best pupil, the opposition of the Edenian Regime should be as wary of him as they are of his master.

Or as I call it, Liu Kang and Kai just judge Kung Lao for slurping the damn meat off the Bone while Li Mei is just enjoying her time with the boys.

"What's the matter, Master Liu?" Kai asked when he saw Liu Kang looking glumly at an old cherry tree. He sat on one of the gnarled roots and invited Kai to take a seat next to him.
