Another Updated Master List!
For anyone who is just now finding The Miys, here is a useful place to start from the beginning. I usually post updates on Tuesdays (although they may post earlier if I misread my calendar⊠it has happened).  Also, you can find my story on Wattpad (<- thatâs a link!), with minor cleaning changes and some consolidated chapters.  You can leave feedback there on each chapter, and even line by line, if there is something I forgot about, changed later, or you just particularly like. Â
If you want to donate, I have a Ko-fi somewhat set up and Iâm open to suggestions on incentives for anyone who has ideas (just not drawing, Iâm a rubbish artist). Â You can find that here -> CanYouHearTheLightâs Ko-fi.

The Miys, ch. 4
Authorâs note: As promised, here is the 4th chapter. Â Posting two nights in a row, check it out! Â I canât really say when the next chapter will be posted. Â This story gets written as things come to me, and it isnât the only project I have going on, unfortunately.
________________________________________________________________
No bright lights this time, I noticed as I woke up.  Cool, I thought, Getting better at this dying thing.Â
I froze as I heard a buzzing sort of âwhooshâ next to me. âYou still arenât dead, we still arenât angels, you are still on Yjq....â My eyes slammed open. Same ceiling as before.  Decidedly not Shithead Simonâs voice. The humming chuckle only confirmed it.  I tried to turn my head, only to find it restrained, along with my arms and legs.
Just as a panic attack started to rise in me, the voice started buzzing again. âNo, I am not Simon.  He has been removed from the room for upsetting you.  You are only being restrained because you - aggravated? - aggravated your injuries.â A scolding tone crept in. âYou were nearly cleaved in  half, silly thing.  Even with our technology, we only barely saved you.  Let your body heal, for fuckâs sake.â
âYour technology,â I croaked.
âHmm, yes,â the humming voice continued. âI am the Miys.â I tried again to turn my head. âNot yet. we are - hideous? - to your kind. Many panic at first, and you have been upset enough this day.  Before you look, know that we look nothing like your kind.â
âHow...bad?â I managed to get out. Â A tube was inserted between my lips, and I drank gratefully as salty-sweet liquid hit my parched throat.
âYou are welcome,â the Miys buzzed as the tube was removed. âAs to how different we look, Tyche says we look like a cross between an arachnid and a water-horse.â  An embarrassed tone now crept in. âThere is no word in our language for that creature. It is quite frustrating.
The fog of sleep finally started to withdraw.  This was a Miys. How could I understand it? And âwater-horse?â Like a sea-horse? A hippocampus? An Each Uisge? Hippopotamus? Tyche.... did they mean...?
âCalm, Enhancer,â it said as the pressure on my head increased gently. âYou have a translator in your auditory cortex, which is why you can understand us now. Water horse is the fourth creature, although I understand the confusion now. And yes, your - sister? - sister, Tyche.â
âTyche....â I sighed.  Not only was she alive, she was on this ship and probably raising hell. âCan I look at you, oh-great-hippo-spider?â
My question got something resembling a snort. âOnly if you promise not to make the high-pitched panic noise.  Tycheâs was quite...blinding.â
Well, no shit she screamed, I thought. Sheâs terrified of spiders. âIâll be fine. You warned me that you may be scary and ugly. Iâm good.â  The Miys seemed satisfied with that, because the pressure on my head was suddenly gone.
I blinked a couple of times, then slowly turned my head. All I could see was a wall of grey. âI think youâre too close.  I just see a wall.  Wow, you guys must be huge.â  The Miys hummed, and then it started to move.  The restraints were suddeny gone from my arms and legs, and I realized that I had actually been held down by the Miys, not restraints.Â
Once the Miys was far enough away, the description started to make sense. For starters, this guy was enormous: nearly twelve feet tall, with thick, armor-like skin.  It stood on two appendages, with four similar ones carried like arms. Two smaller, almost skeletal âarmsâ grew between the top two sets, and these smaller ones were held against the Miys massive âchestâ.  All this was topped with a sloping âheadâ covered in glitter black spots that I suspected were something like eyes.
âWow,â I breathed. âYou are majestic, thatâs for sure.â
âThank you, Enhancer,â the Miys said with a dip and a shuffle. âand apologies that you were not given a translator sooner.  Simon was charged with doing it when you first woke, but he was distracted and forgot.  He has never met another Enhancer before. Nor someone with so many questions.â
I felt my face flush a little. I had been wondering how it was speaking, since I could not see anything like a mouth, and nothing moved as it spoke. Rather than ask, I decided to focus on a different topic.
âEnhancer,â I announced as confidently as I could. âWhy do you call me that, but call Simon by his name?â
The buzzing noise returned. âWe - have difficulty with the shape of your name. And we do not want to call you incorrectly. It would be disrespectful.â
âOkay, weâll work on it,â I waved off. âSo, you arenât killing me.  Did you bring up my sister so I would go along with your genocide?â
âNo -Â â the Miys started at my sudden change in topic.
âBecause it wonât work,â I continued, cutting it off. âTyche wonât stand for it, either.  Sheâll help me, or die trying - â It was my turn to be cut off as a sudden high-pitched noise filled the air, forcing me to cover my ears.  It only stopped when the Miys resumed talking.
âWe are not committing genocide,â the Miys began. âWe are not killing anyone, although Tyche may kill Simon for upsetting you like this. We are simply leaving the rest of humanity on Earth. Yes, they will die eventually, but just as they woudl have in any situation. Killing each other, accident, disease, old age.... Every living thing dies. We do not have to kill them.  Those left on Earth are simply at the point of un-sustainability.â
Oh. âThat shithead - â I started.
âI am quite sure your sister has his punishment well in hand,â the Miys interrupted with a rather human wave of dismissal. âWe took Simon to her, told her you were here and badly injured, then explained what he did.â  Its head tilted as though listening, another disturbingly human gesture. âShe is still yelling. her volume and duration are quite impressive, actually.â
âYou can hear her from here?â I asked, excited. âIs she close?  Can I see her?â I hadnât seen my sister in over five years
That humming chuckle again. âYou are quite inquisitive. It is a challenge to follow your mind. That is largely why I chose you: you want to know everything. So that it will make the most sense, let me answer all of this at once. Tyche is on the other side of the Yjq, so no, she is not close by.
âI can hear Tyche from here, but not in the way you mean. What you think of as âThe Miysâ in a plural sense is actually a hive mind. What one of my bodies hears, we all hear, because we are all the same mind. For the sake of human understanding, I try to only use plural human terms when referring to multiple physical bodies that are not the whole of me. âIâ refers to all of me, or one of my bodies, as it is the same to me.
âAnd yes,â it finished, âyou can see Tyche once she calms down.â
Whelp, I have plenty of time to heal, Â I thought. This is going to take a while.
The Miys, Ch. 42
Things are starting to return to normal on the Ark, and that means taking some things off Tycheâs plate!
Headâs up, this chapter has not been betaâd. I feel like Iâve been saying that entirely too much, recently, but between my work schedule changing drastically and some things going on with @parisconstantine, getting the stories to her in a timely manner and still being able to post on time hasnât been the most feasible thing. Even then, her wifi situation is a bit sketchy. So, any errors, please feel free to let me know in the comments, and they are all my errors, none are her fault. Sheâs going to see this at the same time all of you do!
The Miys, Ch. 14
Authorâs Note: I know it has been a little bit since I posted last. There is a lot of stuff going on in my life right now, so it has been difficult to focus and give this story the attention it deserves. The lovely Tyche has sent me her next chapter, however, so I have edited that and am posting it tonight. This chapter is from Tycheâs perspective and is relaying her story. Any editing errors are solely my own, and please donât hesitate to inbox me if you notice something.
If you want to, you can skip down to the story below the cut. I just want to give everyone an idea of what is going on with my life right now. Â
For those of you who donât follow @ritualistic-raven, my mother has quit two jobs this year with no savings, no safety net, nothing to keep her going long term. The first job was one she had been in for eleven years, and she quit it as soon as her tax return came in (I think it was February? It was the beginning of the year). She lived off her tax return, without even trying to find a new job, until early June. She found a new job in mid-July, and quit that one in September. My sister a full time college student, and had not been working while going to school, so this was the only income they had. There is also my nephew living with them.
My mother still has not found a job, and we are coming up on December. Toward the end of October, they (my mother, my sister, and my nephew) moved into my spare bedroom... Thatâs right. Me, my spouse, my sister, mother, and nephew all living in a just-a-hair-under 1100 sq ft house. It is making everyone involved more than a lot bit stressed out.
My sister started a good job last week, but it is currently just seasonal (although there is a chance to go permanent after the seasonal gig is over). Iâm not even sure if my mother is still looking for jobs, TBH. I work 42 hours a week, my spouse works 40-45, and we both have 45 minute commutes one way. If she doesnât, I have no idea when they will be able to get their own place - I feel terrible that my sister is sleeping on my couch or an air mattress in my office, and that my nephew has literally nothing to do at my house because my house is not very kid-friendly. Fairly kid-proof, but not kid friendly.
I spend an inordinate amount of my time angry, depressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. I have difficulty sleeping, difficulty focusing on work, and resent my mother so much right now I could scream at her every time she crosses my path. Add to all of that the fact that she has apparently forgotten how to cook (which she has done, and done well, for a living, on several occaisions?), we just made it through Thanksgiving here in the States, and Christmas holidays are right around the corner. Iâm also preparing for a business trip, trying to train a new person to help do my job, etc.
All that said, I am trying very hard to still write. I know it doesnât always show on here, but thatâs because sometimes I work on a fanfiction I have not even started posting yet, sometimes I am working on my novel-in-progress (which at this point has become something Brian Griffin would be proud of), and sometimes I am working on Destiel and Sabriel Secret Santa stuff.
TL;DR: Thank you for being patient with me, I have A Lot going on right now, and I promise The Miys is not on hiatus.

The Miys, Ch. 13
Authorâs Note: This is the first chapter written by my new co-author, @ritualistic-raven, AKA The Real Tyche. Initially, this was a fanfiction she wrote from Tycheâs perspective, but as soon as I found out, I had to read it. The idea of everything was just too good not to include! Obviously, this chapter is dedicated, first and foremost to her: For being my biggest fan, my staunchest supporter, and with everything going on in our lives right now, making everything as easy as possible on us both.
She would like to dedicate this chapter to Dante, God Rest His Soul.
Please: Read, Review, Reblog.
âWhere were you when it happened?â
I sighed deeply as I placed my mug on the table. âAntoine, why would you ask this?â As I said his name, his grip on my hand tightened reassuringly.
Sophia raised an eyebrow at his gesture. âYou have been avoiding it. You havenât even told me and Iâm your sister. Between you and my old therapist, I know first-hand that talking helps. You know what Iâm talking about.â She gently pet the purring puddle of fur on her lap, pausing only when it stretched, showcasing claws and fangs.
In my heart, I knew she was right. There was a complication though: my memory never had been reliable. âMore holes than a sponge and nowhere as absorbent,â is how I had always described it. I could summarize ten years in three sentences. These survivors wanted a story, not the bullet points.
âI havenât undergone repair yet. I know Noah can fix me. My memory. Iâm just not sure I want that. Soph, you know how bad my life was back home. Antione, darling, Iâve briefed you on a few parts. Conor, Arantxa, you will likely find out soon. I donât hide my past, but I also donât simply offer it,â I sighed again, the last few words feeling tight in my throat. âWhat I mean is⊠I only remember pieces. I can share those, but a lot is missing. Most was either repetitive or I just donât remember.â
All eyes were on me, even the bright green eyes of the fur-puddle.
âTyche?â Antoine spoke softly, but his voice shook ever-so-slightly.
The hand that wasnât on mine reached for my other wrist, the one I hadnât realized was held in a fist next to my shoulder. He pulled back to show blood on his fingertips, only, it wasnât his.
My sister stood up casually and announced our meeting was over for tonight. âTyche will be okay. Iâve got this. If everyone could just leave, without touching her, Iâll get her cleaned up. Itâs PTSD, and she just told us she hasnât let the Miys treat her. Tyche will be okay. Iâve got her.â
Our friends placed their dinnerware on the counter and each said goodnight, concern in every word. After the doors to my quarters closed, Sophia sat beside me, where Antoine had been, and sat our now-shared cat on the table in front of me. âCan you see ânowâ or are you seeing the past?â she asked quietly.
Being able to act in the present while my mind showed me only the past was an unfortunate skill of mine. No one could really explain how I could do this, but it was classed as a form of shellshock. With so many on the ship with moderate to severe levels of PTSD, the Miys had found my particular form of shellshock fascinating.
âNow,â I barely whispered. My right hand found the cat while my left was clenched tight. Blood dripped slowly toward my elbow.
âGood start,â Sophia said, still quiet, with a ridiculous level of calm that I knew was her own self-defense mechanism. âYour hand is bleeding. Iâm guessing you flashed back to something really awful. Iâm so sorry, Tyche.â She calmly uncurled my fingers to look at the cuts. My fingernails had dug into my palm pretty deeply, somehow without registering pain.
A voice came over the intercom that rang with panic and anger. âSheâs bleeding! Why would you let her hurt herself, Soph?! How was bringing up the beginning of the End a good idea?!â
My chair fell back a few feet when I erupted from it. âDonât you dare blame her for this!â I thrust my hand poignantly toward the camera module, emphasizing my last word. âDonât you dare blame any of them, Simon!â
âTyche, you need to calm down. Raising yourââ
âOh, fuck off. I have PTSD, as do all of us â except you, might I add? I am traumatized and I refused treatment.â
âThatâsââ
An absolutely primal scream roared from my tiny frame because I could not stand Simon. He was truly terrible at handling any of my PTSD episodes, had been since the moment I first woke up on Ark.
âTycheââ
I audibly growled before I spoke again. âWhat are you even watching me for? You swore you wouldnât when you stepped down from the Council! What the hell do you want?â
He cleared his throat from his location elsewhere on the ship. âYou have a meeting in two hours. Your quarter doors were set to Do Not Disturb and due to your illness history, there was concern for your safety. Apparently with good reason.â
âSimon,â my sister began as she set my chair upright, still unnaturally calm but clearly scolding him with that one word. âYou know to check entry logs first. Then you would have seen I had an official appointment with our Assistant Director of Administration. Go back to work.â
âWith all due respect, maâamââ
âThe concern is appreciated. She is my sister, though. I am one of the few people in any universe she trusts. Please, just â go away. Tyche would probably like privacy now.â She shifted her gaze to me.
I nodded almost imperceptibly. As I turned around to walk to my bed, the intercom clicked off. The Miys, with their not-very-good understanding of privacy, slipped words into my mind. âThere is an infirmary approximately two-hundred and fifty yards from your quarters. Would you like to be escorted?â
The telepathic hive-mind alien âspokeâ in a tone of genuine concern. I donât think it had witnessed a physical result from PTSD before.
âNo, I have not. Your recollection is â fragmented, but very strong. How can the human psyche withstand such emotions of such strength?â
I brought the knuckles of my wounded hand to my forehead. âIt canât. The psyche breaks. Otherwise, post-traumatic stress disorder wouldnât exist. If our psyche could handle it, our brains wouldnâtâŠâ I waved my hand to signal I was trying to find a word. âOur brains wouldnât glitch, or malfunction, or however you best understand the damage done to my brain by my traumatic experiences.â  Sophia opened the door and reminded me about the infirmary.  Apparently, our host had included her in the conversation.
âRight. Thanks. Iâve managed to keep my hand pretty since before the End. Letâs not break that streak now.â
The alien body in the infirmary was just as tall the all the others. Not really a surprise, given the months I had been on this ship, but I had hoped for some distinguishing feature from time to time. My sister, however, could tell them apart. How she did that remained a mystery to me.
I strolled over to the Miys body assigned here and carefully held out my wounded hand. With one pair of hands, it placed my arm on an exam bench adjusted to my shoulder height. It did know I was on my way, after all. This was also not my first visit. The Miys vessel moved a CD sized scanner over the wound, no doubt checking the severity of the injury.
âSo, Tyche,â my sister said with a note of curiosity. âWho is this Antoine guy? You two seemed awfully chummy.â
I looked at her and blinked, trying to register what she asked. The Miys still had little understanding of dissociation, but Sophia understood perfectly and showed patience. She knew what post-panic numbness felt like.
âHeâs, um⊠What do you mean? Chummy? In what sense?â My brain was catching up and my tone reflected playfully.
She placed a hand on her hip and tilted her head. âI saw Antioneâs hand on yours. We both know youâre generally a prickly person,â she laughed. âYou were practically cuddling with him, if someone knew what to look for.â
âOh! That. Heâs basically my assigned comfort-human. Ever since I told our hosts about touch-starvation, theyâve been trying to encourage me to bond with someone. Yâknow. For my health.â A cold serum was injected into my palm. âAh! You could have warned me!â
The serum was designed to heal our wounds almost instantly. It worked, mostly. As long as the injury wasnât what human consider severe â the Miys considered everything severe â the serum could stimulate rapid cell growth. You could actually watch the injury heal within minutes. The only side-effect was a few days of the site tingling.
âAnyway,â I said as I watched the cuts on my palm heal, âAntoine was one of the âcandidatesâ to âfacilitateâ catching me up on lost touch or whatever. Heâs good at snuggling, will bring me meals when Iâm not well, and fully respects that I am asexual. I ended up telling Them, well, It, since thereâs only one mind⊠Ugh⊠I still feel awkward about the pronouns⊠Our Host that it really is best for me if I receive that touch from someone I can get to know. That sounds creepy, I know, but I digress. I guess Antoine is like an arranged boyfriend? He knows the deal. Aroace. He asked what it means and I explained. He said that actually makes things less awkward if we end up not getting along and have to end our âarrangement.ââ
We both laughed as we left the infirmary. I told her it was much easier to get the cuisine I was accustomed to thanks to Antoine and some of the things he had told me about himself.
The pendant on her necklace chimed, signaling that my that my councilmember sister had another official meeting. Our three hours had come to an end.
âSame time next week?â She asked, casually brushing her fingertips over the pendant to silence it.
I looked down as I smirked. âI can take a sedative just to make sure things donât turn out like this week. So yeah, same time next week.â
We parted ways and I couldnât help but think of how badly I had reacted to a simple question. He didnât mean anything by it. At some point, we all shared our stories with a crowd. Some days, the assemblies felt like Addicts Anonymous. The attending members were almost always awkward, fumbling through their histories on Earth. Â Given that my position on the ship dealt with so many people, I knew that sharing my story would help them see me less as a bureaucrat. Seeing me as a person they can relate to would make my job easier when learning where to place them for jobs.
Looked like it was time for me to get the hard part over with, damn the emotions and full speed ahead.

The Miys, Ch. 12
I apologize for not posting this yesterday. With everything going on in my life and my family, I was so exhausted I could not focus enough to finish the chapter and instead had an early night. However, I had to finish this chapter before I could start posting what my co-author, the real-life Tyche @ritualistic-raven, has sent me so far, because her first chapter includes information that was just âthinking out loudâ level stuff, and would have confused everyone else (yeah, my sister/beta is privy to spoilers).
That said, after a good nightâs rest, this chapter just poured right out. It is the longest chapter I have to so far, weighing in at 2400 words exactly. I might do one more chapter before I start posting what she has already sent me, it really depends on how I feel about where it fits into the narrative.
As always, please read, reblog, and review! I absolutely love questions and feedback.
