When I posted the punk mixtape, I promised (sort of?) I would post the mixtape I made in the summer of 1994 and, boy, is it a doozy.
Most of these songs were recorded off MPLS/St. Paul's top 40 station KDWB, which is why some are "excerpts" — I wasn't quick enough to hit "record" when they came on, and I have no excuse for that since I was probably just reading comic books and staring at the tape deck for hours, waiting. (However, the "Boogie Man" excerpt was intentional. I dubbed it from the album during a summer vacation to Duluth and I'm pretty sure it was the outro music for a Ben-as-DJ signoff-thanks-for-listening spiel.)
Like I said, the spelling of "Hey Jealousy" is truly tortured: I spent about 20 anguished minutes working out different spellings before settling on this incorrect option. What here isn't ripe for ridicule, though? The title on the cassette, the admonition on the middle page of the booklet (And I was too lazy to draw anything else so I just painted a hypnotic spiral?), side A/side 2 (not intentional, I'm sure), "Voyage Fantastique," the attempt at the Epic logo (what album was that copied from, I'd like to know), the fact that I took time to draw a totally useless UPC, wowwowwowwow. At least I got the number of songs right on the cover.
Anyway, six months after I finished this I bought Nevermind, Smash and Vitalogy and the rest is history.
