In the Heights “96,000″ Trailer
Lin-Manuel Miranda and director Jon M. Chu’s In the Heights has a new trailer. Quiara AlegrĂa Hudes, who wrote the book for the stage play, wrote the film screenplay. Choreography is by Christopher Scott and costumes are designed by Mitchell Travers. The film stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco, and Jimmy Smits.
“Lights up on Washington Heights…The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.” (Warner Bros.)
In the Heights hits theaters and HBO Max on June 11, 2021.

COSTUME DESIGN
WINNER:
Jacqueline Durran, Little Women
Bold, stylish, and anachronistic, casting the March sisters as bohemian renegades who really wore and lived in their clothes, with special emphasis on function, comfort, and individuality. In turns quite masculine, like Jo’s collared coats and buttoned vests, in others rather prissy, like Amy’s fur collar or Meg’s ball dress, Durran’s fashions are refreshingly varied for a period effort.Â
NOMINEES:
Andrea Flesch, Midsommar
Simple white frocks with gorgeous embroidery in bold, primary colors and intricate, remarkably varied floral headdresses, emphasizing order, tradition, and beauty, but also predestination and cultic horror. Truly iconic work in perfect harmony with the films striking overall design.
Pauline Jacquard, Knife + Heart
As bold and with as unabashedly queer an aesthetic as the film itself, Jacquard’s designs really make the Knife + Heart sing, most memorably with the traveling green rain coat that both Vanessa Paradis and Nicolas Maury wear and that stunning all leather getup our villain wears, featuring that truly unsettling mask.Â
Györgyi Szakács, Sunset
Fine linens and silks in whites and blacks, holding up quite well under the extreme close up we often find them in, suggesting the luxury and glamour of the Belle Époque that show wear and tear as things start to fall apart. Then, of course, there’s those fabulous hats.Â
Mitchell Travers, Hustlers
Hits the nail on the head of mid-2000′s dancer-wear, with cheap body suits and leotards in lycras and latex paired with expensive furs, and that stunning bejewled piece we first meet Ramona in. The style takes an abrupt turn post crash to more modest, bleaker clothing, with a sharp upturn back towards luxury brands like Louboutin and Gucci after they get to scheming. Inspired styling that tells a story.
