mitBeef becomes mitBacon
Hi everyone, It is with a heavy heart that I announce a major change in mitBEEF's mission. Climate change is the most important issue of our time. Global warming is a clear and present danger, and unless we radically curtail greenhouse gas emissions, the planet that future generations inherit will be dramatically different. Livestock contributes to 20% of greenhouse gas emissions, and cattle are by far the worst offender, with 2/3 of those emissions. On a per-calorie basis, other meats have far less impact on global warming. Additionally, cattle are especially resource-heavy to farm, requiring nearly 30 times as much land and 10 times as much water to raise than pork. Delicious as beef is, it is simply unconscionable to promote its unsustainable consumption the way mitBEEF has done for over a decade. Effective today, mitBEEF will become mitBACON. We will dedicate ourselves to promoting a more environmentally sustainable diet: one with a lot less beef, and a little more pork. Join us tonight at 11 PM in Random Hall's Foo lounge for mitBACON's first meating. Come pig out with us. As always, vegetarian options will be provided. Best, Eric Mannes mitBACON Master Carver
