Gotta stick to tumblr over here for Rick and Morty they got no media literacy on tiktok. They are being weird about the ending of that season calling it cute and sweet. GANG that shit was not sweet!
āMorty lived in a reality for months with a family that was devoted to him, after his entire life of abuse. Him coming back to the house after all of everything that happened(I am not getting into that here on this post) to find that no one cared or noticed he was gone, and then tried to tell Beth he loved him, and got nothing but a dismissal and a āyour being weirdā.
Meanwhile Rick didnāt care that Morty was gone, he had to have know because he picked him up, visibly traumatized, and instead of asking him about it, he got drunk and grabbed him outta bed and then we got that exchange. Morty saying back āIām your sonā is him accepting this version of his life. Heāll take the abuse if it means having a crumb of attention from Rick. This is not sweet this is horrifying for Morty.ā
I commented that after the 8th post I saw of ever being like āitās so cute that Rick is Mortyās dad now!ā My brother in chirst- Rick is the WORST ABUSER FOR MORTY? The fact that people are glazing over the abuse Morty has been through since Rick showed up AND BEFORE IT is crazy work. Rick is not a sweet and loving dad, he is a drunk, narcissistic man. if you didnāt like normal!jerry in this episode then you should be horrified that Morty is accepting to stay with Rickās abuse.
Regarding the questions around when Diane was omegaed based on Field of Dreams, I think there are two main considerations.
Different dimensions donāt seem to necessarily be āin syncā with each other timewise. In Rickās crybaby backstory, he still seems to be fairly young when he spies on a Rick with a Summer and Morticia who appear to be around 17 and 14. My headcanon is that all dimensions were synced when the Central Finite Curve/Citadel was built. Therefore, if Diane was omegaed when our Beth was around 17, it could be possible that other Beths were older or younger and so experienced this at a different age - hence why sober Rick says Beth āwas so littleā.
Morty is making assumptions about sober Rickās Diane. While she also wouldāve been affected by the Omega Device, itās possible that she did genuinely leave him and Beth years before she was erased.
maybe i'm being overly sensitive, as i tend to be about characters that are extremely important to me, but i'm incredibly uncomfortable with the idea that morty "ruined" professor rick's life by asking for his help.
morty is fourteen years old. he is a child. he had absolutely no control over professor rick's actions, and even if he did, it's still not his responsibility because he is the child and rick is the adult. morty, both because of his age and his desensitization, cannot accurately judge these situations for himself.
rick ruining his years of sobriety is a choice he made. yelling at and neglecting his wife was his choice. he is an adult man making his own choices.
was morty perfect during this episode? no. he was extremely desperate and that caused him to be unsympathetic to uli. he definitely scared that dimension's smith family because he no longer understands that the things rick put him through aren't normal. but he is not some sort of poison, he was a fourteen year old boy who was desperate to get home to his family.
This season was amazing. It does intrigue me that tons of people have said over the years to make it more like the early, early seasons. In those seasons, Rick was meaner and more violently drunk. There were more episodes this season where he was acting similarly especially compared to the last few. I wonder if thereās a correlation..

This is lowkey my favourite season and I also lowkey didn't like se8 so yea as a rnm fan I'm having the best day of my life, you?
Did anyone else take this as MIT Rick being Christian (or at least believing in God to some extent)? I've heard that AA is religious, so that could've contributed. Either way, it's a very interesting detail.
What do you think wouldāve happened if Mort had successfully run away and if he had found the Rick of his dimension? I donāt think that was actually his plan because his diary mentions āZā, but it would be interesting to see. Good/basic/MIT/sober Rick immediately accepts Morty, but a lot of that is probably because Morty confirms his old theories were true. If Mort had shown up, with no knowledge of any of that, would Rick have accepted him? Would he have tried to let the family know? Would he have agreed not to tell the family but not taken Mort in? Would he still have taken Mort in but eventually their relationship wouldāve still gone the same way (with Mort stumbling across/asking about his old stuff)?
