I feel that second tag to the depths of my soul like. I don’t HATE the kid. I legitimately feel sorry for him— but I have no PATIENCE for him. I get really survival of the fittest w/ my fictional characters there’s important shit happening so MOVE
i feel like upon re-reading you would experience a begrudging appreciation for heathcliff in that respect
because in a lot of screen depictions and literary discussion heathcliff can very easily get reduced to brutality and fierce emotion, like, "there's that scary dude with the eyebrows that has probably killed people and keeps crying about his ex-girlfriend"
but what interests me is the coexistence of those traits with his traits of being, like. viciously resourceful and cunning and putting his intelligence to use in terrible ways to the point that he was able to basically assume control of two generations' worth of a family
