let your mistakes be a way of remembering what it takes to be free.

1. i have never been one to gravitate toward the labelling of things. But i feel forced to declare my adherance to a mode of creation known as "mistakism" 2. i am a "mistakist" and all the work I produce adheres to the tenants attached to the label/movement. 3. (factors involved include) 4. All modes of work exist to produce a single body of work. each facet builds upon the other. 5. you can never differentiate between the seperate modes of creation. 6. A completely unified aesthetic. 7. Mistakes are good. 8. there is no such thing as a true mistake. only a more modern rethinking. 9. Suicide is a show of strength. 10. only in randomness and "mistakes" can one truely announce what is too deep to express in a direct and true way. 11. football games, science projects and explosions. 12. rather than direct a scene - document the action 13. Provocations 14. Heritage - Lineage - Prejudice. 15. grammer means more when words are mispelled and used incorrectly in the traditional sense of the word. 16. ---------------- 17. Jokes without Punchlines. 18. Hermits and rural Lonliness 19. A "Mistakist" must believe in God over all else.

In 1999, wunderkind Harmony Korine made a movie called julien donkey-boy. It was the first American film awarded a Dogme certificate by the faux-austere Dogme 95 filmmaker gang in Denmark. julien donkey-boy was not faux austere, it was the real thing. Actually, it was nearly unwatchable, a salad of enlarged, low-rez digital video heaped atop a simple and ugly story. For all that, it was significant, because it pushed the film medium so far that the seams started to show. When film is comfortable, and functioning properly, it seems flawless; the medium itself slips into invisibility. So you tend not to ask, "How does this work? Why does this work?" Those are important questions, and julien donkey-boy, in disrupting our ability to just watch the movie, thrusts them into the foreground.

                                 It’s not like I have an aversion to my own films, but at a certain point the last thing I want to do is watch my own movies. I just like to put things out there and then walk away. I don’t have my own posters in my house. I don’t even own my own dvds or books that I’ve written. I don’t have anything. You would walk in my house and you wouldn’t see anything that reminds you of me except pictures of myself and my family. I never understood going to director friends’ offices and it’s just covered with their works. It’s like living in your own asshole. I feel like you can get really caught up in some kind of history, or living in the past. I know I put myself into those movies, my ideas, and they exist almost like your children, a child would exist. But there’s something nice about putting them out there, leaving them to their own devices, and just going out there and making up something else new.
