The sooner she got through all this, the sooner she could get back to work. And she knew the Chief was throwing more paperwork at her to prove her point - after working with her for years, Juliet was aware of many of Karen’s tactics. But that didn’t make the decision any easier. On the one hand, she was itching to get back to work, to do something substantial, HELPFUL, instead of filing paperwork and doing menial tasks. But on the other hand, she was still waking up with nightmares about free-falling from that clock tower - if she managed to sleep through the night at all.
So should she hide behind papers and stagnate, or go back to the field when she might not be mentally ready for it?
Lost in her thoughts more than her paperwork, it took a moment for Juliet to notice that her chair had been pulled back and John’s lips brushing against her forehead silenced her protests before she could even speak. A smile stretched across her lips, lighting up tired eyes, but only for a moment.Â
As soon as John mentioned sleep, she was back on that clock tower.
Shaking her head, Juliet reached out to the desk, attempting to tug herself back to her work. “Not yet, John, I told the Chief I’d file all these traffic violations before I went home and I’ve still got half a box left.”
