It's been four months since you last saw your husband . 138 days of coming to an empty home , waking up to a cold side of the bed , short phone calls that ended too soon , careful words pressed into one-sentence texts because of the limited screen time he had . Sometimes (always) , youâd stare at your phone long after his messages stopped coming in , rereading them over and over , pretending you could hear his voice behind them . You missed his laughter , his playful teasing at the dinner table . Even coffee tasted bitter without his lazy morning voice at the other side of the table . You keep on telling yourself that it's okay and he'll be back before you know it , but you can't function without your calm black cat beside you , it hurts .
It was supposed to be an ordinary evening . Just you slumped on the couch , mindlessly scrolling through your phone , trying to convince yourself that endless posts could somehow ease the ache of missing your husband . Until you heard a knock on the door . A hesitant knock that could barely be heard . You weren't expecting anyone today , and it's almost 8 pm . Who could possibly be here at such a late time ?
You hesitated to open the door and even considered not opening it . But when the knock came back firmer . You panicked . You reached for the nearest thing , a book Wonwoo had left behind before leaving for the military, as if it will protect you from anything behind that door .
Taking a shaky breath , you twisted the knob and swung the door open in one go , holding onto the book for dear life .
And there he was .
Short hair , the crisp green of his uniform, and an ear-to-ear smile that made your heart stop . Your eyes widened, disbelief flooding every part of you . The book slipped from your fingers , hitting the floor with a dull thud, and before you knew it , you threw yourself in his arms so hard you nearly fell over .
" Why didn't you tell me you were coming . " The words barely came out of your mouth , trying to hold back your tears .
You leaned back just enough to look at him , holding him tightly like he'd vanish if you let go . Then you randomly started peppering him with kisses all over his face .
" It's a surprise , baby . I have a whole weekend to spend with you " wonwoo replied with a big smile , while holding you by your waist .
" This feels unreal . I can't believe you're here after all this time . Being a military wife is so hard " you explain with a sniffle , resting your head on his shoulder and tears already rolling down your cheeks .
Wonwoo giggles " Are you that happy ? "
"I'm so happy I could die . "
You stayed like that for a bit , trying to forget that he'll be gone again in two days . But at least you have him now and that's all you could ask for .
And suddenly , life isn't so dull and lonely anymore . The weight youâve been carrying for months slipped away the second you were in his arms , and it feels like you finally found your missing piece . At that moment , nothing else mattered but him . And that's all you need to feel complete .
