Notes: (Masterlist)(By Character)(About Me) Honestly, I didnât think was going to get this long, LOL. I actually started this one a while ago, before the Bodyguard!AU... @welovegroot
^^^^^
When you wake up cold, your first thought is confusion. When was the last time you woke up cold? You almost couldnât remember a time when being in bed didnât mean being way too warm.
Peeling your tired eyes open, the first sight that greets you is the alarm clock. Itâs 5:45AM. Too early to be awake.
Groaning, you roll onto your other side and move to snuggle closer to your husband so his comforting warmth and steady heartbeat can lull you back to sleep.
But the sheets are cold and empty.
You sit up. âGladio?â you ask the darkness.
Silence.
You try again. âGladio?!â
Nothing.
Worry sweeps over you. Gladio slept like the dead more often than not. If something had happened in the night, he would have woken you, right? Was Noctis okay? Had Gladio received an alert from the Citadel and gone rushing off to keep the king safe? You look around. Nothingâs horribly out of placeâmeaning he probably didnât get dressed in any particular hurry. In fact, his pajamas are folded neatly on the dresser.
You scoop up your phone from your bedside table and dial his number.
You hear the vibration of his phone from his bedside table.
Muttering a curse under your breath, you climb out of bed. Where had he gone?!
Chill night air ghosts over your skin. Shivering, you pull on a plush bathrobeâgift from Gladioâand go searching through your home for him.
Once you determine that heâs not home, you get your phone out again.
It rings four times before, âHâlo?â
âYour Majesty. Sorry to disturb you. Itâs Mrs. Amicitia. Have you seen Gladiolus?â
Noctis grumbles a little. âUh⌠no. Heâs not here. I was asleep.â
âAlright. Iâll ask around. Thank you, Noct.â
âSure thing.â He hangs upâand probably immediately falls back to sleep if you know him as well as you think you do.
You choose another number in your contact list. It only rings twice before, âIgnis Scientia.â He sounds tired, but professional.
âIggy. Itâs me. Have you seen Gladio this morning?â
âI⌠cannot say I have. My apologies. Have you asked the king?â
âYeah. Noct hasnât seen him either.â
âWell, donât worry yet. Heâs probably just gone out on a run.â
You sigh with relief. You hadnât considered that. âYouâre probably right. Thanks Ignis.â
âOf course, Mrs. Amicitia,â he replies. âGo back to bed.â
âYeah okay.â
He hangs up. Despite the tiredness in his voice you know that heâs probably been awake for at least an hour. You swear to the Six that Ignis hasnât had a full nightâs sleep since he was maybe fifteen.
You set your phone down and climb back in bed, but now youâre too riled up from searching your home for Gladio that you know you wonât get back to sleep just yet. You just lie there and stare at the empty sheets where Gladioâs broad form usually blocks your view of most of the window.
While worry plagues you, you try to calm down by remembering the past. All the best memories. Heâs just on a run. Heâs just on a run, you think. Ignis is probably right. He usually is.
^^^^^
âNeed a hand?â you asked, plopping down on the ground next to where Gladio was pounding a tent stake into the ground.
âNope. I'm good,â he replied.
You looked around at where everyone else was doing camp-set-up chores. Except Noctisâwho had fallen asleep in the car and everyone had literally just left him there. Prompto was trying to convince Ignis to let him dump out the rest of his water bottle on the princeâs head. But Ignis shot him down. Several times. With reasonable arguments and some sharp chastising.
Gladio smirked and glanced at you. âWhat?â you asked quietly.
He nodded over your shoulder.
You turned to see Noctis blearily sitting up. When he realized camp was already well under way, he tried to leap over the side of the Regaliaâs doorsâand fell right into a bush, screaming, âWhoaâWHOA!â Right before his legs careened over the side of the door, you saw the laces of his boots were tied together.
Snorting, you whacked Gladiolus in the knee. âHow did you do that with me sitting between you two?â you hissed.
He leaned closer to your earâbecause Ignis was giving him a sharp glower. âI did it when you got out of the car and I was looking for this,â he replied, hefting his mallet. You couldnât help but snicker. You were having a great time on this trip.
The boys tended not to prank you. Ignis wasnât much of a prankster at all and Gladio preferred letting you in on the pranks he pulled on the others. They both said something about you being a lady and deserving some decency and respect from their group of stupid idiots. Prompto was really the only one who pulled anything on youâand his were pretty harmless, all things considered.
A sword landedâhardâin the dry ground between you and Gladio. Noctis appeared at its hilt, one hand wrapped around it and a glare on his face. His laces had been untied from each other.
Gladio smirked. His greatsword appeared in his hand as Noctis yanked his longsword from the ground and swung it. Gladio pushed you down onto the ground so you were out of the way as he raised his sword.
A loud CLANG echoed across the barren land. A flock of birds took flight with squawks of protest nearby.
Noctis and Gladio both pushed off from each other to end the block. They swung at the same time.
Before Noctis or Gladio could connect with each otherâs blades, two thinner, shorter ones stopped both of them in their tracks. âEnough! Both of you!â Ignis snapped. âAre you going to behave like children or are you going to be responsible adults and finish setting up camp?â
âI'm more prone to childlike behavior myself,â Prompto remarked.
âNot you,â Ignis growled, shoving Noctis and Gladioâs blades away from his daggers.
Everyone turned to look at you as you picked yourself up off the ground and dusted the dirt from your clothes. âWell? Arenât you going to say anything?â Noctis asked.
âNothing to say. Ignis covers it pretty well,â you said.
âOh so youâre taking his side,â Gladio teased.
You shot him a look. âI'm taking the side of âthe best course of action,â genius,â you snapped. âWhich right now is finishing getting the camp set up before the sun goes down.â You gestured to where the sun was turning from blazing yellow to a more muted orange.
Gladio gave you a bow. âYes of course, my lady,â he joked.
^^^^^
A noise in your home jars you from your thoughts. You bolt up in bed and conjure your sword. Not bothering with the bathrobe this time, you prowl through your home on silent feet.
When you reach the front door, a hulking figure is moving around.
Your sword vanishes in a puff of light and you grab a pillow, whacking the figure in the side. âGLADIO!â you cry. âYou scared me to death! Donât ever do that again!â
He laughs and scoops you into his arms. Heâs sweaty and sticky and his skin is hot under yours. âSorry,â he says, his chuckle rumbling deep in his chest next to your ear. âShoulda left a note.â
âYes. You should have,â you retort with a pout. He picks you up and snuggles you close to him.
âJust went on a run, babe.â
âThatâs what Ignis thought.â
âWell, he would know.â
âGuess so.â
Gladio carries you through your house and drops you on your bed. He kisses your forehead. âDonât be mad, sweetheart. I didnât think youâd wake up.â
Itâs hard to be mad at that smile. So charming and familiar.
Still, he deserves the light punch on the arm that you deal. He chuckles. âOkay, I deserve that.â
âYup,â you say.
He withdraws to the bathroom. You hear the shower running, the constant noise lulling you into a light doze. Not a full sleep, just enough that you donât notice the sky outside the window slowly lighting up.
A shriek escapes your throat as a heavy weight drops on top of you. âGLADIO!â
He laughs.
Oddities Note: Heâs at the bar
