Hey, as a child I used to cry when people laughed. I hated it because I always thought they were laughing at me, and it made me feel self conscious and nervous plus the volume was painful. Could this be an autistic trait?
This could definitely be an autistic trait. Autistics have trouble interpreting social situations and so not being able to understand why someone/a group of people are laughing is normal, and assuming they’re laughing at you is also normal. I personally have trouble telling when someone is joking so I often get people upset with me for not laughing.
The volume bothering you could also be related to a sensory processing disorder which is incredibly common among autistic people. Hypersensitivity to sounds is most definitely an autistic trait.
