"So you want to swim with us? Well... I suppose that's alright... but... you sure it'll be okay?" Makoto asked.

Rei nodded his head.

Makoto looked at the other two and they shrugged, seeing nothing wrong with it.

"Can he even swim?" Haru asked.

Makoto turned to look at Rei who had a look of confidence on his face.

"You could say that I'll be like a butterfly, gliding against the water." Rei said.

It was good enough for all of them as they walked towards the pool and the three boys stepped aside for Rei to show them what he was made of.

He stepped to the edge of the pool and got into position. "Should you... take your glasses off before you swim?" Makoto asked.

Rei shook his head, "I loose 90% of my capabilities without my glasses. I need them on. It'll be fine." Rei reassured the worried boy.

He seemed relucant to let him continue but he relented as Nagisa nudged him, seeming to be very interested in Rei's swimming technique.

"TWWEEEEEEET!" Nagisa imitated a starting whistle and Rei dove into the pool.

It was a good start. Rei sunk to the bottom and slowly rose up, as per usual for most swimmers.

Rei had put in possibly 3 good strokes in until the pool water hit his glasses and they flew off. 

That's when everything started going down hill. 

Rei who was completely composed and was swimming very well a moment ago started to spazz in the water.

His limbs were flying everywhere like fish caught in a fishing net.

He gasped for air, screaming. "Mayday! Ahngasldkf MAY-damnfflahg"

Makoto looked at the other two worriedly. Should they go and save him?

"What an interesting swimming-style. Nagisa, what is that? A new kind of free-style?" Haru asked.

Nagisa stopped to watch Rei's swimming closely.

Though he did look like he was in peril,  he was moving forward in the pool.

His screaming and pleading aside, he did sort of look like he was swimming.

Rei slowly started to sink down underneath the water and he hadn't resurfaced. Makoto was ready to jump in there and save him when Rei jumped out of the water.

"FREE WILLYYYYYYY!" Rei shouted as he plopped back on top of the water, limbs flailing frantically, still gasping and screaming until he reached the end of the pool.

He grabbed the edge of the pool, shook his head to get the excess water out of his hair and he turned to look at the 3 swimming boys with a haughty smirk.

"So, how did you like my swimming? I'm good, huh?"

Haru and Nagisa looked at each other and started to clap.

It was sensational.

A new swimming style has been born.

"W-Was that even swimming!? Both of you stop clapping! You can't call that swimming. Rei, do you need swimming lessons? I'll give you personal lessons. I thought you almost died a few times there!" Makoto started to vent, not taking well to watching a boy who sucked so badly at swimming he looked like an insect drowning in water.

"Wait. IS THAT WHY YOU SAID YOU'D BE LIKE A BUTTERFLY? BUTTERFLIES CAN'T SWIM!" Makoto couldn't handle this boy anymore.

His two friends weren't helping in the slightest.

The two were discussing how the swimming style must've worked.

"I have mimicked a butterfly in the water just fine, did I not? I invented the swimming style myself. I don't know what to name it just yet." Rei said.

Nagisa thrust his hand up into the air and waved it about like he no one's business.

Rei nodded his head towards Nagisa's direction.

"FREE WILLY!" Nagisa shouted excitedly.

Rei thought about it and smiled. "Free willy it is. So then, will you let me join you?" He asked.

Haru and Nagisa agreed to it but Makoto continued to nag until Rei agreed to take personal swimming lessons from him before he could officially join them on their swimming escapades.
