Today, I was at the FOAM Museum in Amsterdam. These pictures from Mishka Henner. Quite fascinating how he made me question what were these photos about... They are indeed feedyards.

Wall, Page and Screen: Mishka Henner - 03/02/2017
âHow on earth do you move that thing from the camera to the worldâ?
Henner further contributed to the knowledge of possibilities exhibiting work can take, while also delving into ways it can be sourced, instead of made. He primarily works with sourced imagery from Google Maps and Earth - utilising it to produce not only birds eye view satellite imagery, but car level material that creates a 3d render of the real world, âstreet viewâ. âWe wanted to do something honest with integrity, rather than trying to sell a fantasyâ stated Henner - a man who presented in such a way that you were clearly able to chronologically visualise his journey. Like the works of Jeff Wall, a lot of Hennerâs work takes a large form that the digital source is not originally intended for. Taking material that is meant for mobile/computer devices and stitching it together like a giant embroidery to produce interesting physical formats. He âRe-imagine[d] them in a bigger spaceâ using Inkjet printing methods and improvisation.
What I found particularly enlightening about what he had to say was the fact that Google Earth enables you to go back in time, and see the world in the past. Â Seeing as I am planning to focus my project on the time period during the Vietnam war, this could be another avenue to explore. Although, I doubt satellite imagery from Google Earth goes that far back in time but none the less, I am sure there are different forms of satellite or reconnaissance imagery from that period I could work with. The image above is of feedlots in Texas, illustrating the hundreds, if not thousands of densely packed cattle that soon becomes McDonalds burgers and Steak dishes. It could well pass as an expressionist painting, as without knowledge of its content its deemed as abstract. The narratives of his work alone are inspirational - usually controversial or exposing.

Series-Â âThe Fieldsâ &Â âFeedlotsâ
There is something very peaceful about these aerial view images. The geometric shapes and lines almost remind me of crop circles. There is a very painterly quality to each of his images making them almost not resemble photographs
