The Impact of History and How People Keep Going Back to It
The history has been dark and bloody and embarrassing, and most importantly, beyond our control. The things our ancestors have done have been done in the past, and now we bear the blunt/fruit of it. I fully understand the depth of the past and how it affects every single thing we do today. I also understand that it has been done in the past, and the only thing we can do about it is analyze it in order to understand it.
However, when somebody makes a post, saying that because the history claims that Indians were opressed, and that white people had it so good, and that for this reason, white people can never fully understand the pain of dark skinned people, and the way we will always be outcasts from the perfect idea of beauty and ethnocentrism, it makes me grit my teeth. Who are you to say what people of the present should behave like; who gave you the right? The colour of your skin doest not give you the right to make any judgments, or to bar anybody's rights to be who they want to be, and enjoy the things they want to.
Far as I see, what is the point of your post? Do you want us to continue in the way of the past; Caucasians should stick to wearing their traditional clothes, and Indians, theirs? So perhaps white girls don't understand the true meaning behind our clothes, educate them. You cannot change the past, stop being bitter about it. Stop harping about it, using it as an excuse to spread unnecessary hatred. If ethnocentrism really bothers you as much as you claim, then spread the right beliefs and increase people's knowledge. Share the meaning behind the bindi, instead of sneering at an excited girl because it looks pretty on her.
And please, let go of that superficial judgmental attitude and welcome the world which is willing to change. So change with it, and live the beliefs instead of holding unnecessary prejudices.
