Like others of her species, Mircune is an autotome and can shed her tail in self defense. The tail is a reservoir of water and nutrients that sates the predator who removes it, but leaves the Hermit in greater need of resources until her tail grows back. Hermits spend much of their life travelling alone—first towards a place to teach valuable life skills and find social fulfillment, and secondly in search of a dragon near the middle to end of their life.

The term 'Kobold' is not a taxonomical one, but instead describes a group of non-related animals who are obligately dependent on dragons to sustain their life-cycles. Dragons are an incredibly important and diverse phylum, being the first organisms to spread across planets and fulfill all sorts of roles for Kobolds of various species, families, and even phyla. Hermit Kobolds specifically (Family Persectoridae, highly diverse) rely on dragons to bear their young and develop the eggs of the future Hermit Kobold generations.

Because of the strewn-about pattern the Persectorids' dependent dragon species use to deposit their eggs, Hermit Kobolds will hatch alone from the ground in isolated but protected and hidden areas. After a couple years of development with occasional aid from the parent dragon, the surviving young make pilgrimages to whatever village or settlement the egg was deposited near. To outsiders, then, it appears as if child Persectorids simply wander into cities with no explanation, leading to many rumours and myths as to their origin. This is why they have gained the common name of 'Hermit Kobold'.
