how i do my lighting? a few people have asked before so i’ll explain as best i can but im bad at this, sorry!

so with a drawing the first thing to do is make a new layer on top for the lighting effect to go on. this can be a normal layer for now but you’ll probably be changing the layer settings later. i can only show how i do that in procreate but most programs should have similar settings

i use a pencil brush (6B pencil) for drawing the lighting because i like the rougher edges. the lighting is pretty blocky and i try to consider where the most light is hitting etc so i can do those patches bigger

there are two options you can do next! either use the bloom setting, which will make the lighting look more luminous, or do it the way i prefer and duplicate the layer, then use gaussian blur on one of them

you can then play around with the layer settings.. just figure out what works best, some will be more translucent like soft light while others will be more defined

you can also alpha lock the lighting layer to easily change its colour. eg the lighting above is a mixture of yellow and orange—yellow where it’s closer to the light source

Although it changes with time, the manga that’s consistently on the top of the list would be full metal alchemist!! Some other current ones that I like and are following are tamen de gushi (slice of life wlw manhua), spy x family, one piece, and jujutsu kaisen, and completed ones that I hold fondness for are katekyo hitman reborn, Naruto, bleach, Tokyo ghoul, etc

there’s def more that I’m not remembering atm tho, so the list goes on xD

So, fun fact about me, prior to watching a:tla last may, the only animated shows I had watched were limited to like, sporadic episodes dragon ball z and naruto as a kid and like three episodes of jojo bc my brother was watching it and I couldn’t be assed to leave the couch 😂

Well a part of it is bc Ayaka’s ascension stat is crit dmg%!

Also I spent 3 months farming blizzard artifacts…the sands bothers me a lot bc it’s defense. Ideally I would like one with energy recharge, but I haven’t been able to get one with good stats so for now this is fine.
